Fair use rationale for Image:Torrance-SouthHigh-logo.jpg[edit]

Image:Torrance-SouthHigh-logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Notable alumni[edit]

Various editors keep adding alumni, some of whom should be on there and some of whom shouldn't. Here's what the guideline says:

All alumni information must be referenced. See Wikipedia:Footnoting for technical help. Individual alumni need a citation a) to verify that they did indeed attend the school and b) to verify the statement of their notability in their short one or two line description. If an alumnus has their own article in mainspace, then it is not necessary for their notability to be referenced, as long as it is done on their actual page. Be sure to check the existing article to ensure that it demonstrates alumni status with a cited reference.

If you want to add someone to the list, the best bet is to make sure that they have a Wikipedia page of their own. Otherwise, that listing must include a reference that mentions they went to South and gives a reason why they're notable.

This editor added several alumni to the list, with summaries that included statements like "I added 14 names of notable alumni to the printed list, which seems to have been compiled by students familiar only with recent athletes and entertainers." (here) and "Added names to notable alumni; apparently student compilers knew only athletes and entertainers." (here). I can't say that I'm quite as enamored of this editor's additions as he is; for instance, of the two alumni that he added who I know, both of their graduation years are incorrect. Consequently, if his additions didn't have easily-findable sources, I yanked them.

WP isn't the standard for notability. Just because somebody has a WP page doesn't mean they are notable, and just because they don't have a WP doesn't mean they are not notable. Notability is determined in whethter the person has done something significant, and not whether they have a WP page. Actually, a person having a WP article does mean that they're notable—or at least it should, as not being notable is grounds for the page to be deleted. And while it's absolutely true that there are notable people who don't have articles, that doesn't mean that a list of alumni should include un-cited or incorrect information. That sounds rather pointy to me, but taking it at face value... go for it! So long as the articles are all based on verifiable reliable sources, and there are sufficient sources to show that each person is notable and that they went to SHS, I'd have no problem with it at all—far from it, in fact.
Here's the list of names removed since January 2007:
I'm sure at least some of these 40 were added as jokes/hoaxes, but if you're willing to create all these articles, I'm sure you'll be able to figure out which are which.

Existing listings[edit]

Of the current alums listed (all of whom have WP pages), many or most of them do not mention on their own page that they went to South. Per the last line quoted above, they all should in order to be included here. In fact, Bobby Blotzer's page says he went to Torrance High. Catchment Area for Students is wrong.[edit]

I went to South High School, graduating in 2010, and I was south of Lomita Blvd. According to article, this would mean that I should not have gone there. This is obviously wrong, as in addition both main feeder middle schools for South High are below Lomita Blvd. I do not know, however, where the exact line south is (most likely at the border with Palos Verdes and Redondo Beach.
