Untitled[edit]

What is marketed by CityRail as the 'South Line' branches from the Main Western Line at Granville. A flyover carries the 'down' (southbound) line over the 'Y Link' tracks (which carry the Cumberland Line services) between Merrylands and Harris Park. The line proceeds south through Merrylands, Guildford and Yennora stations which all have side platforms

The southbound line out of Granville towards Merrylands does not go over the flyover. Eregli bob 08:27, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

South Line discrepancies[edit]

I have added Newtown, Croydon and Homebush stations to this list, since they are indicated as being on the South Line on all revised network maps (as of the new timetable introduction in September 2005.

However, on consulting the timetable booklet (Inner West/South/Cumberland, September 4, 2005) I can see a number of discrepancies:

  • Some trains which go through Granville which by definition must be on the South line, stop at stations not indicated as being on the South line. For example, the 4:53am (dep. Granville) weekday service is an all-stops service with the exception of Clyde.
  • Non-all-stops lines regularly stop at Summer Hill, which is not considered to be on the South line, e.g. the 2:49pm (dep. Canley Vale) weekday service.

Am I missing something here on the nature of Cityrail lines to be this informal and flexible?

I hesitate to any more updating to the South line based on this.

As a side note, the aforementioned timetable booklet (Inner West/South/Cumberland) actually doesn't contain any timetable information for the Cumberland line!

Cityrail considers the South and Inner West lines to be one operational unit, they are both in so-called Sector 2 and they share a timetable booklet. Also, prior to 2000, the section Cabramatta- Lidcome of the Inner West line was considered part of the South line, and was accordingly colour-coded green (the former South line colour), when they were colectively known as the Macarthur Line. Merge with Main Suburban Line page[edit]

There is no point in having duplication of page information. The Main Suburban railway line, Sydney page should not exist and the information should be held here or at the Inner West Line page. We don't have duplication for apparent technical names of railway lines elsewhere. Let's stick to the names given to the CityRail lines and keep the information on that. The trouble with that is where should it go- South, Inner West, North, or Main West lines? What Cityrail calls its lines are current marketing terms and sometimes bear little reference to the actual line names. If we write everthing according to what CityRail currently markets itself as, a lot of these pages will look like they have been written by CityRail's PR department (and a lot of then do!) and not encylopedic entries. Anyway, the Main Suburban Line page is properly referenced, which is more than I can say for most of the other pages that fall into the CityRail topic. Quaidy 00:02, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The information is easily covered under the Inner West Line article - all the trains stop on the supposed "Main Suburban Line" stations. The reason the articles are not referenced is because they were written before much emphasis was put on referencing; and I haven't had time to do all of them. The note about the CityRail PR department is utter rubbish and does not contribute anything to this discussion. Let's stop this nonsense in doubling up and merge it into the Inner West article, or South article. JROBBO 04:30, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stations table[edit]

I think that the large station table on this and other Cityrail pages is too big and directory like for an encyclopaedia page. Would anyone read it? It seems a rehash of information that could easily be found on the official Cityrail website. Thoughts (with civility please)? Endarrt 01:45, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
