I certainly remember this better than any other summer job I had in college or high school. True it was better for some than for others. All in all, I'm glad I did it when I think about it. I have sympathy for the thoughts about asking neighbors about other children. I'm glad I did it in a more trusting time with fewer strange activities. 216.106.54.30 (talk) 04:31, 31 July 2009 (UTC) I sold from 1975 through 1978. I am *not* a natural salesman -- my first year I made a profit of $350, and the first few weeks I barely made anything. Since you pay for all expenses yourself, it was a pretty hand-to-mouth existence. I did *not* have fun that first year. "Miserable" would be a pretty good description. Later years were better. My last year I made a profit of around $3000, and it was a lot more pleasant. I am not the salesman "type." I don't especially enjoy it. But I can *do* it. I learned a lot about myself, about persistence, and about standing on my own. I would never want to do it again, but it may very well be the best thing that ever happened to me.
