Toronto's oldest Chinatown?

[edit]

I'd agree that Spadina and Dundas is the centre of Toronto's oldest Chinatown, but there are still some Chinese businesses over where the original Chinatown was, at Dundas and Elizabeth. Some people might still consider this a Chinatown, so I added a mention of it as a vanished Chinatown. John FitzGerald 18:02, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would argue that it's the same Chinatown, it simply grew west. The origin is near Bay and Dundas, but the centre is at Spadina and Dundas (and it's a lopsided centre anyway, it goes more north and east than south or west). Avt tor 04:17, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

John Sewell wasn't a "former mayor" in 1971...

[edit]

The article currently says:

After a long public battle, with the opposition to the project led by Toronto urban writer Jane Jacobs and former Toronto mayor John Sewell, the plans were halted in 1971.

This is not quite right. In 1971 Sewell was a non-aligned city councilor. He was elected mayor in 1978(?). I am not sure I can think of an alternate wording that isn't awkward. Maybe "writer Jane Jacobs and independent city councilor and future mayor (1978-1979) John Sewell"? Geo Swan (talk) 00:49, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
