Knees

[edit]

Can anyone explain where Kipling's "immortal oaken knees" fit into the design? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 12:19, 19 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The photo here shows all-planking spiling, a more traditional method is of woven willow 'kneed' with oak pegs evey yard or so. I understand a spiling expert - Kevin Wynn - is in the process of preparing a diagram for this page.Glynhughes (talk) 08:37, 20 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Without having read this, I replaced the photo with one showing willow spiling, as the only references I could find (one of which I added) were all about this specific form of spiling. PamD 16:39, 20 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Informally requested move

[edit]

(This post has been moved from the top of the page where it had been placed, and the section heading added. PamD 19:51, 18 March 2016 (UTC)) Can this page be re-titled to "Spiling (Environmental engineering)" to allow disambiguation with the page that I wish to create for "Spiling (Boat Building)" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:GranbyPatrick/sandbox? GranbyPatrick (talk) 19:02, 18 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@GranbyPatrick: There's nothing to stop you from creating Spiling (boat building) (no caps in the disambiguation), and then adding a hatnote to this existing article to point to it. ( {{about||the boat building technique|Spiling (boat building)}} ) There could be a subsequent Requested move to move the environmental engineering article to a disambiguated title.
