Carrier spirit houses should probably be separate article

[edit]

Just making a note as a reminder for later, or for another editor more familiar with Carrier culture to make a separate article, e.g. "Spirit house (British Columbia)" (as I suspect it's not just the Carrier...).Skookum1 16:02, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spirit Houses not uncommon in Western civilisation

[edit]

Spirit Houses were not uncommon in Western civilisation, although surviving examples are far more plain than their Eastern counterparts. They were made by witches to keep any malevolent spirits busy. Therefore the outer had to be something simple, that could be easily sealed, mainly glass bottles or simple clay houses. They were then filled with various items to keep the spirit occupied - the more interesting the better.

There are several excellent examples on public display within the Museum of Witchcraft in Boscastle.

Don't think this belongs in this article, but in one of its own. --Pawyilee (talk) 15:46, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
