The Cyberbalkanization stub apparently covers the same topic, and Splinternet is a nicer term for folks knowing Splinter bids: Please merge. –89.204.153.226 (talk) 02:09, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Merging seems like a good idea. Jeff Ogden (talk) 02:47, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. --Wikiwatcher1 (talk) 06:28, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I also agree. Having Wikipedia articles are about things, not terms, so having two separate articles is a form of content forkery. — Ƶ§œš¹ [ãːɱ ˈfɹ̠ˤʷɪ̃ə̃nlɪ] 14:13, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

 Done. I did this merge. --Jeff Ogden (W163) (talk) 19:41, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think Cyberbalkanization should go on it's own. Splinternet seems to refers to an infrastructural separation while cyberbalkanization seems more like a natural social behavior of internet users. Also cyberbalkanization in this article falls under the title "Interests" but the phenomenon is also related to personal views. Bigbarba (talk) 08:08, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Discuss plans to create a similar firewall to block child pornography?[edit]

"discuss plans to create a similar firewall to block child pornography" uh, if they would sucessfully censor it, wouldn't there be actually MORE molesters? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.168.45.58 (talk) 15:28, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Interests[edit]

This section seems like it is worryingly vague. For example, the works of Cass Sunstein and the contrasting studies primarily focus on politics issues. However, there is already a section dedicated to politics. The information is definitely contributory to the topic, but I feel it's potentially out of place. 74.136.232.230 (talk) 01:27, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • (5+ years later) - I agree with this IP user that the "Interests" section seems a bit out-of-place. From the text, I wonder if this was something on the previous "cyberbalkanization" page that was merged in with this one. Unless anyone objects I may make an attempt at making this section read better. - Dyork (talk) 20:57, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Intent to remove Religion section - and trim Politics and Nationalism[edit]

The section on "Religion" talks about blocking and censorship, but not about splintering the Internet. This info would probably be better on Internet censorship. Similarly, there is content in "Politics and nationalism" that is about censorship, but not about splintering the Internet. Unless there are major objections in the next few days, I will make some of these changes to keep the article more focused. - Dyork (talk) 21:06, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Done - I removed the religion section back on 24 March 2022. Haven't had the time to edit the article further, but it does need to be a bit more focused. - Dyork (talk) 20:28, 4 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
