I've added the template {wikifiy} to the article. If this is in apropiate please feel free to remove it or change it to a more apropriate template. Rudraksha 03:26, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure where Wikification comes in at the moment. I think if someone cleans up this article, there'll be something to work on.--CarrotMan 06:08, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Chess is not a sport

It is a game. 87.112.71.215 15:55, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Then so are many listed here. Whitewater Kayaking is not a sport. It is a lifestyle activity or an adventure activity. Kayak Slalom is a sport. Rock climbing is not a sport. It is an outdoor activity/pursuit/lifestyle activity. Sport climbing is a sport. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.160.206.225 (talk) 13:51, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

I don't agree with Mr.Tata. According to Wiki, "A sport is an organized, competitive, entertaining, and skillful physical activity requiring commitment and fair play, in which a winner can be defined by objective means." So whitewater kayaking and rock climbing are both sports. While card games and board games fit most criteria except for not physical, usually could be called mind sports. Lets learn from that article and reorganize this pagedummy idiot.--KnowledgeHegemony 09:17, 3 June 2007 (UTC)mkbjbj

Grammar, sentence length, etc.

This page seems to have been written by Indians. The Football section, notably, is short sentence after short sentence after short sentence. Like this. And then this. And this. And so on. Also sections like tennis and hockey are in terrible condition. Of course I've tried to tidy it up a bit, but I'm one man and I can't do it alone. However, I'm actually considering rewriting the ENTIRE PAGE just to make it legible. NIN 19:20, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Accuracy of Information

Please check this article and re-write certain portions. Like the one on Tennis says that India's best performance in Tennis has been 2nd in Davis Cup. In fact India has reached the final of Davis Cup on two occassions. Once prob. in 1974 and then again in 1985, which they lost 5-0 against Sweden. Vijay Amritraj was part of the Indian team in both the occassions, but there is no mention and instead Paes & Bhupathi are mentioned. The best India has achieved under these two is reaching the Semi Finals once. Shovon 14:34, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Needs rewriting

Can some one please spare the time to rewrite this piece. I tried to rewrite portions in Lawn Tennis and Soccer. There are many irrelevant disciplines listed as sports in India. One such discipline even had the name of the office bearers. Deleted two those.Shovon 15:54, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Field Hockey

What is that ('Infamous Papeon' thing) under field hockey? Have deleted, irrelevant. -- Godof86 (talk) 06:27, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Copy-edit

I did some copy-editing and also arranged the sport activities alphabetically. I deleted the chess "sports" in the lead section (as proposed above).--Kojozone (talk) 07:40, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Hockey is not a national sport as it is not mentioned in the constitution of India.

A thing which is mentioned in constitution of India as national is termed as national. Like National Flag, national bird etc. And it is mentioned in news debate as well by many times that it is fallacy to term hockey as a national game. This term is not mentioned in Constitution. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ritesh.ked3 (talkcontribs) 10:45, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

what about this then ? http://india.gov.in/knowindia/national_game.php Vinay84 (talk) 08:22, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

2010 Commonwealth Games

I was wondering whether the article should mention CWG too since there is a lot of mention of Asiad. Vinay84 (talk) 07:48, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Missing sports

This article is missing many important and famous events including: Polo Archery Athletics and Triathlon Power-lifting Shooting Billiards &Snookers Wrestling

I am adding sections which need to be expanded Vinay84 (talk) 08:15, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Copyright problems

There are some copyvio issues within the article that need cleaning up (e.g. The Ice Hockey section), while there are other parts of the article that have been picked up by mirrors and others (unattributed) therefore confusing the issue. Some deeper look at individual sections is required. —SpacemanSpiff 04:50, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

Archery

The Archery section was inserted in one edit, August 2010. Due to the single edit and its tone, I suspect that it was copied from somewhere. Searching on Google returns many results, including several dated mid-2011. Flatscan (talk) 04:32, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

Two national sports?

The article contradicts itself when both field hockey and kabbadi are called "the national sport." Either there is one, or I suppose logically there could be multiple (but that's not what "national sport" means, right?) but then you would say "one of the national sports" or somesuch. TjoeC (talk) 14:59, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Done, @TjoeC: There is no official national game/sport of India. Rock Stone Gold Castle (talk) 09:50, 30 October 2022 (UTC)

Thank you. I see your edit. TjoeC (talk) 06:07, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

Why is 'Jimmy George' not mentioned under 'Volleyball' in this article? I would like his name mentioned as he was one of the best attackers in volleyball during his time.

International sports standing

Set against its huge population and its status as a regional major power, India has long had an amazingly low profile in international competitive sports, especially the Olympics of course. In track and field athletics, swimming, football and many other sports, India is practically a nonentity. Compare with China or Brazil and you'll see the difference. During the ongoing Rio Olympics. some news outlets are also commenting on this low performance, or no-performance. I think thsi deserves a few lines in the article here, since it's evidently a long-running state of affairs. 83.251.164.50 (talk) 11:42, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

Kite-flying edit

In the Kite flying traditional sport, you are talking about Makar Sankranti and kite flying competition being played in this festival. It is not well written and doesn't precisely convey the meaning.

Right now: The festival of Makar Sankranti features kite-flying competitions. It is a festival which is a passion among Indians.

Suggestion: The festival of Makar Sankranti is one of the celebrated festivals of India in which Kite-flying competition is passionately celebrated among Indias.
