Sport in Taiwan
Should this be "Sport in the Republic of China" or "Sport in Taiwan"? WhisperToMe (talk) 04:15, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
- Sport in Taiwan.--Jerrch 15:56, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
- I think it is fine to use "Sport in Taiwan" since there is not "Sport in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea" but "Sport in North Korea". -- scchiang (talk) 05:16, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
I think it is more appropriate to use Taiwan, since it refers to the island rather than the governing political entity, since it not only about international competitions, but rather, sports that are popular in Taiwan.
I also find the lack of any mention of badminton curious, it is definitely one of the most popular sports in Taiwan. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ct1220 (talk • contribs) 06:09, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
Neutrality
I think this article is quite subjective, and some descriptions aren't suitable for wikipedia. I edited the parts saying "baseball is the most popular", "MANY players play abroad" and "Taiwanese basketball teams are weak". I hope someone can add more objective contents with references.Yel D'ohan (talk) 12:00, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
Rename to Sports in ROC
This article should be renamed "Sports in ROC" because the ROC competed as "China" in the 1950s/1960s. Thus, the sports are tied to the international recognition of the political entity, rather than the place. T-1000 (talk) 18:49, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
I agree. I will tag this article for discussion for title change. First, because it needs to be correct vocabulary "Sports". Second, to include international competion as a country. Mistakefinder (talk) 23:43, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Sport in Taiwan → Sports in Republic of China — Mistakefinder (talk) 00:02, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- Support ("Sports in the Republic of China") as keeping in line with the consensus naming convention. Quigley (talk) 00:15, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose Although the island of Taiwan is governed by the unrecognised Republic of China, this is a non-political article and should used the the most commonly used terminology, "Taiwan". This follows established convention with regard to other non-political aspects of Taiwanese life; see History of Taiwan, Culture of Taiwan, Religion in Taiwan and so on. Please also note that Taiwan never competes internationally as "Republic of China" but rather as Chinese Taipei. The question of "sport" (correct in British and most other international forms of English, see Sport in the United Kingdom, Sport in Australia, Sport in India etc) or "sports" (American and Canadian English, see Sports in the United States and Sports in Canada is a WP:ENGVAR issue and as such "sport" should be retained. The Celestial City (talk) 22:33, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose, "Taiwan" is the common and least misleading name; and for consistency with the History, Culture etc. articles mentioned above.--Kotniski (talk) 10:03, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Splitting baseball into its own page
Anyone interested in splitting Baseball in Taiwan into its own page and expanding it? I think there is a lot of history and context that could be added into one single page; including the introduction by the Japanese, Kano team, Little League history and modern day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eclipsed830 (talk • contribs) 06:40, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
