Saint vs St

The name of the Seaway is the "St Lawrence Seaway" yet the article spells out "Saint".

Similar to Saint John NB and St. John's, NL, one is correct, the other is not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.118.73.1 (talk) 13:24, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

It's odd that the page is headed Saint Lawrence seaway (and is a redirect from St Lawrence seaway), yet the box at the right is headed "St. Lawrence Seaway", and the official logo contained therein is the "Great Lakes St. Lawrence seaway system"! (It now seems to be generally accepted that abbreviations use a full-stop (e.g. abbr.) but contractions (where the short form ends with the same letter as the long form) don't (e.g. the contraction of "Mister" is "Mr", not "Mr.") ... so should every occurrence of "Saint" be replaced by "St"?
