Question "first institution of higher learning"[edit]

I question the claim that this was the first institution of higher learning west of the Mississippi River. The founding academy that was developed as St. Louis University was also started in 1818 in St. Louis, and it claims to be the first academy, college or university west of the Mississippi River.
