Deponent verb in the school motto

Latin 'nascor' is a deponent verb, so 'natus sum' to my mind means 'I was born' due to its adherence to passive conjugations. Thus I suggest removing the alternative erroneous translation 'I am born'. - OldAloysian2007, 21.01.2011

Irrelevancies

Using articles about other schools as guidelines and templates, I notice many things on this article are irrelevant (and not keeping with the tone of wikipedia - this is no place for in jokes). There is no reason to have the following categories on the page: 1.1 Current Senior School staff; 1.2 Former Senior School Staff; 1.3 Current Junior School Staff; 1.4 Former Junior School Staff; 2 Current School Captains; and 3 Current Vice Captains. For this reason, I have edited out these things, as they are, completely irrelevant. Notable Staff

This is not a place for in jokes

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. I know any person can edit its content, but some people are abusing that and filling this page with their idiotic in jokes, irrelevancies, or vandalism. Please save this for your school, and not this website.HarukoBass 22:54, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

A bit of school politics

I've removed a bit of discontent regarding the College's alleged "Big Brother" tendencies. I fully agree it'll be tragic when big Ronnie Renton retires, but here's maybe not the place for a hatchet-job on the rest of the management, n'est-ce pas? What A Load of Pap

View the history page for my previous attempts at comments. This page should be taken over by the above mentioned 'fathers', who are the only people qualified to comment in any way as to what the school's representative page should be like.

The most disgusting thing, imo, is that the supposed representative of Hutcheson's Grammar is too ill educated to use wiki syntax while referring to their entry as an example.

Id est, a load of egotistic mediocrity that the people that taught me would have given a serious kick up the arse for. Upcoming Review

Having contacted the school since my above comment and knowing that the wiki entry is scheduled for revision, I would like to make some points with respect to that.

In the first place and in response to the comment above from Hutcheson's staff or pupil, my personal feeling is that, while wiki entries should be concise and to the point, they should also be reflective (in the case of schools) of the concerns that parents considering sending their children there might have. Thus a brief list of notable and contactable staff is pertinent.

Talk Page

I generally read the Talk pages on wiki's as a source of information about progressional development of the page, not as a source of vanity oriented ego boosting, so I would suggest that, on revision of the wiki page, that the talk page be prefixed with a request for salient comments only.

Current Content

The History section does seem disjoint and could be the reason for the current C rating that the entry has, ie acceptable but not good. I would expect history there, not architecture.

Social Activity seems to me to be a redundant entry that should probably be under a subheading of Curricular. The Houses section seems to be to me to be historical comment and not deserving of a separate section. Chaplaincy should be under either Staff or Religion and also not have a separate main heading. Sport should be under Curricular Augmentations and not given its own heading. St. Aloysius had several 'extra-curricular' activities, as they were called, when I attended. Retreats should be under Religion. Music, at least when I attended, was a subject unto itself. Though extra curricular in terms of normal school hours, none of my friends took it lightly, nor did the teachers. Notable Former Pupils, I recognise the pride in them but many of those names are non global. Most of those names would be unknown.

A human perspective on the development of the school as its moves from area to area and time to time.

Pertinent current contact details for staff that may be contacted for further information about the school and its activities

Curriculae

Academic subjects that the school currently teaches

Augmentary Curriculae

Other activities that the school promotes outwith the normal academic school timetable, such as sport, physical education, drama, music. (I personally dont know the school's full current curriculum)

Facilities

Sports grounds, science labs, available musical instruments, etc. What the school can supply to augment learning, education and the life of the pupil at the school.

Notables

A much shorter list of notable former pupils indicating only names that would be immediately recognised.

Student Perspective

From my perspective, as an ex pupil, the experience of going to St Aloysius pretty much changed my life. From the perspective of parents considering sending their children to St Al's, that has to be a serious consideration. At the end of the day will my child come out of that school better off than had I sent them elsewhere?

Understanding why and how and to what extent children like going to the school is part of what St Aloysius stands for.

Headmasters List

John Ogilvie Hall

St Aloysius expanded its preparatory school in 1954 and moved it from Garnethill to Langside. It had entrances from the west side of Mansionhouse Road and from the north side of Camphill Avenue, so was either on the corner or went round the back of the building on the corner. It was called John Ogilvie Hall. It was expanded in 1964. It subsequently closed (when?) and the school was incorporated within the main buildings back at Garnethill. At some stage the name John Ogilvie Hall seems to have been dropped. I understand that the buildings have been demolished.

Can anyone enlarge on this and provide citations with a view to a paragraph being included in the article? The college’s own website (cited below) merely gives the 1954 date and nothing else. Exbrum (talk) 20:57, 31 January 2018 (UTC) Exbrum (talk) 09:31, 25 January 2019 (UTC)
