  • Should State Street still be classified in the "Regional Banks" industry considering that it sold most of its banking operations many years back?

--PiKeeper 00:12, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

What is the standard that Wikipedia is using to define industries in this context? In other words, what are the alternatives? I think MSCI classifies State Street in the "Diversified Financials" or "Capital Markets" industry. Calebu2 21:21, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

  • This article reads like a corporate brochure, especially the "Industry Leadership" section. It would be questionable even IF every entry had sources. Can we have some objectivity, please?

I've removed some of the gratuitous marketing bumpf, including the "Industry leadership" section.Saganaki- 07:05, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:State Street Logo.jpg

Image:State Street Logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Article Naming

I know with regards to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (companies) that you are supposed to abbreviate the legal status of the company unless the company shows preference to using the full legal status in their logo or literature. Now on State Street's website you notice in the title of the site that shows up is "State Street Corporation" and in press releases on their site they have it shown as "State Street Corporation". Thus I felt the title of the site should be changed back to State Street Corporation, since the legal status is being used in full form in official company literature. Lead section a laundry list of cities

I realize it probably took another Wikipedian a considerable effort to list all the locations where State Street has operations, but saying that it does business in major finanial centers such as "North America, Europe and Asia such as London, Edinburgh, Boston, New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Missouri, Frankfurt, Zürich, Munich, Cologne, Vienna, Grand Cayman, Paris, Amsterdam, Cape Town, Hong Kong, Beijing, Singapore, Sydney, Dubai, Dublin, Luxembourg, Krakow, Milan, Montreal, Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, and Toronto." is hardly helpful and not very factual, viz. Cape Town is not in "North America, Europe and Asia" and I'm not sure what reckoning would consider "Kansas City, Missouri" a major financial center on a par with Hong Kong or New York City. I've simplified this section. Because I'm undoing a lot of linking, if you feel strongly about my edit please let's discuss it here. --Cantabwarrior 00:30, 24 February 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cantabwarrior (talkcontribs)

Founding History section copyvio

The entire, or very nearly the entire, Founding History section consisted of copy and pastes from http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G2-2841200164.html which is listed as the source for the section. My edit to remove it is here. Cat-fivetc ---- 01:16, 22 March 2013 (UTC)
