Why does this article exist?

I have to question the justification for this article because it seems to only exist that it was removed. There is no actual information of the statue itself; who made it, what was it for and why was it there. If there is no substantial information beyond what exists at this moment, I move to delete. --WashuOtaku (talk) 04:28, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. There are so many thousands of statues, sculptures, and other works of art in the world, both in museums and outdoors. Their mere existence (or former presence) does not warrant separate articles, even with a few local WP:NEWS pieces noting the removal. This should be included at Montgomery Bell Academy#Campus and resources or Montgomery Bell Academy#History, being in the context of the school. Reywas92^Talk 17:46, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

They have become notable because of the political controversy. These monuments are of serious encyclopedic interest, and need to be documented in detail. Future generations will be amazed that there were still monuments publicly honouring the Confederacy all over the United States as late as 2020. They belong in museums as evidence of past attitudes to shameful events, not on pedestals in public spaces. -- The Anome (talk) 11:32, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

And that's the problem with this article, it's about something else and not about the actual statue. Since it does not appear to be any actual interest of expanding about the statue, it would probably be best served to incorporate this into a bigger article, like the main article of Sam Davis or Removal of Confederate monuments and memorials. --WashuOtaku (talk) 12:08, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. This is not a case of WP:COATRACK. These are public monuments, referenced by multiple WP:RS (and often not just those related to the George Flynn protests) that of themselves are sufficient to make them notable under WP:GNG. (See, for example, the sources I have just used to document details of the statue's history that are unrelated to the political controversy.) I recently added this statue to the Removal of Confederate monuments and memorials and pretty much summed up exactly the same thing written here. At this point in time, this article is basically redundant information unless someone is actually willing to write about the statue itself. I removed the quote from the Removal of Confederate monuments and memorials page, which is plenty long already. This subject is mentioned there, at List of monuments and memorials removed during the George Floyd protests, on the Academy's page, and on the (notable) artist's page. I am fine with the quote removal, the overall end-result is still shown with references. The point of this discussion is the value added of this existing article on Wikipedia because for now its only noteworthiness is the fact it was removed, which is covered by two other Wikipedia articles now. Not everybody and everything is noteworthy of a Wikipedia article and that is okay; and it does not appear anyone cares about the statue wanting to expand on it, so why have it? --WashuOtaku (talk) 15:31, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
