Album classification

[edit]

The definition of "pop" as the genre of "Steppin'Out" is inappropriate. The album is a "milestone" of rock . It contains many sound shades: funk rock, blues rock, pop rock, country, soul , American, jazz . Some songs like "How Cruel" or "You Rope You Tie Me" are even close to hard rock or progressive pop. It is difficult to classify an extraordinary and eclectic songwriter as Armatrading who has been so successful and whose repertoire is a mix of influences of African-American music , traditional American folk and rock. But it certainly cannot be called "pop". The definition of Pop Rock, although reductive with respect to the complexity of the sounds and the refinement of the lyrics is certainly more suitable. Personally, I think his music should be called Art Rock PaulanskyMedia (talk) 12:41, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
