General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: Yes
  • Other problems: No - See comments below.
Image: Image is freely licensed, used in the article, and clear at 100px.
QPQ: None required.

Overall: Solid article. Earwig checks out; QPQ unnecessary here. The hook has a few issues. First, the bolded link needs to be redone per MOS:EGG. Article title itself could be reworked into a piped bolded link. Secondly, there's the image. I understand that one of the opponents in the arcade Punch Out!! is called "Pizza Pasta", but an image of such commonly known food isn't necessary. It's also not directly relevant. (After all, why not also include a photo of a Honda car and a piston for you-know-who?) Some more quibbles: 1.) The article ought to make clear that at least the arcade, NES, and SNES installments were made in Japan. The quote from the Escapist suggests that it was made in the US ("As you go through the game, you gain an encyclopedic knowledge of ignorant American sentiments"). Either that passage needs to be cut, or there needs to be a clarification (with citation). 2.) The passage "Stereotypes have been prominent in Punch-Out!! since the release of the eponymous arcade game in the early-mid 1980s" is not confirmed in the cited source. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 19:16, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@CurryTime7-24: I propose this as an alternate hook:
ALT1: ... that Stereotypes in Punch-Out!! include long-standing negative stereotypes of Russians prevalent in both American and Japanese culture? Source: Schwenkbeck, Rahima (June 23, 2017). "Soda Popinski". In Banks, Jaime; Mejia, Robert; Adams, Aubrie (eds.). 100 Greatest Video Game Characters. 100 Greatest... Lanham: Rowman & Littlefield. p. 177. ISBN 9781442278134.
I also edited the page to make the changes you suggested. CJ-Moki (talk) 22:22, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for letting me know. Will look over in a few minutes. Sorry for the delay: national and personal holidays. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 19:30, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
