In case it becomes relevant to future expansion of this article or to articles about theses people, here is a fuller relevant passage from Kenny's West Virginia Place Names:

"Withers (Chronicles of Border Warfare, Ed. Thwaites, p. 121) indicates that in 1768 Samuel Pringle, John Jackson, John Hacker, Alex and Thomas Sleeth, William Hacker, Thomas and Jesse Hughes, the Radclifs [sic], and John Brown discovered and named Stone Coal Creek."
