I'm pretty sure that a stratopause does not exist in all atmospheres; a stratopause by definition represents a local maximum in temperature with height, and there is no necessity for this to exist (all substantial atmospheres possess a thermosphere at the top - with temperature rising with height - and atmospheres with significant greenhouse gases will have a troposphere at the bottom - with temperature falling with height - but that only forces the existence of a tropopause).
