Notability
[edit]A school does not become notable for a shooting occuring at it; the shooting may be notable, but that doesn't make the school itself notable. That said, a lot of random high schools seem to have Wikipedia articles, so I'm unsure as to the level of notability. Titanium Dragon 18:43, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- But there are no links to an article on the shooting. Its not in the news section.
- maybe the school name could redirect there?
- anyhow can you show me how to get to the shooting article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.140.165.62 (talk) 18:50, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- Follow the link in the "Shooting" section to get to the SuccessTech Academy shooting page. DMacks 19:02, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- I think current WP guidelines are that any school at the level of high-school or higher is notable, while lower-level schools need explicit supported notability. That said, I think having so much discussion of the shooting here is undue weight (hopefully the school is more than just "the place a shooting happened"). Better IMO to off-load shooting details to a separate page and keep the school page a more balanced one about the school itself (as a stub if that's all anyone feels like writing). - I agree, DMacks. I am thinking the way it is now is fine. If more school-related (not shooting-related details become available. They should be put here.Starsfan32 22:22, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- I believe if any school has a shooting where more than one person dies it merits an article.--English836 02:29, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
- From my reading in the WikiProject Schools, while it's not a rule in general practice most high schools are passing AfD tests, I guess on the basis of "surely it's notable in some way, even if the (often-stubbed) article doesn't yet indicate how," whereas primary schools (elementary, middle) or lesser-known private schools are tending to fail the notability requirement. Notability need not be something like a school shooting...it could be for its academic record, or athletic prowess, or age of the school (oldest in district, etc.) - Ageekgal 22:36, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
- Apologies to DMacks; I just noticed I basically just repeated what s/he'd posted. - Ageekgal 01:33, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

- Exactly which is why i believe it was not in best interest to even suggest that this school is not notable.--English836 22:54, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Caption in Education Template?
[edit]FWIW, there's supposed to be a caption showing under the image but I can't seem to make the Education template behave. I'm not skilled with template edits to see what might need to change; some of the other templates support captions, such as Template:Infobox US school. Anyway, the text is there if you need it. Or if it disappears, the caption text is on the image's description page. I feel the image, if left in the article (it's the only freely usable'gov't source one I could find), must have a caption since it's just of people vs. the campus, school building(s), or school logo/mascot, as is typically used on these type pages. - Ageekgal 22:36, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
- I think it's the "motto" field that appears as a line of text below the image in that infobox template…not really an "image caption" as you would like. DMacks 00:44, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
