Name[edit]

I'm not going to make a change as I don't know the area, but a list of Gaelic place names gives Suilven as "pillar mountain", not just "pillar", which seems likely given the form of the word. 212.159.59.41 (talk) 09:01, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the Gaelic name Sùilebheinn would indeed appear to be a combination of a Norse word meaning "pillar" (cf. Icelandic súla) and the Gaelic beinn (mountain). Have edited the article accordingly. -- Picapica (talk) 22:59, 2 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
