Protection[edit]

It's probably too early, but there's already vandalism happening. Random people seem to think it's funny to supply phantom teams and scores to the info box. How early is too early to ask for protection? Jdavi333 (talk) 16:32, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Basically, when the vandalism is so frequent that a vandalism edit might be missed behind a legitimate edit. At this point, it seems to be a couple of times a week, probably not enough to request protection. But you could try now, at WP:RPP. Since you'd be asking for an 8-month protection, it would probably get extra scrutiny. Tarl N. (discuss) 17:38, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

About the halftime show[edit]

It's been reported by Variety recently, but an unnamed IP address keeps removing the info because it's never confirmed.

Usually these reports end up as true, but should we go ahead and stay the course until it actually is confirmed? –Piranha249 01:17, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

We don't generally include anything in the infobox until the NFL has announced it. I also clarified in the body that this is just a report, not a confirmed announcement. - BilCat (talk) 01:28, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks for the clarification. –Piranha249 01:50, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Info Box Halftime Performer[edit]

I don't know who "Johnny Hallyday" is, so whoever he is, he, nor has anyone officially been announced by the NFL as the official performer for the show. Thus, this part of the info box should not have anyones name in it. Only the NFL can officially announce who it is, and that is the only reference this page should accept to put someones name there. Zdawg1029 (talk) 03:52, 26 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It was vandalism by an IP. They also had changed the broadcast network. Fixed. Tarl N. (discuss) 04:27, 26 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Super Bowl LIII in Finland.[edit]

In Finland Viasat will broadcast Super Bowl LIII in Finnish on Viasat Urheilu and with original US audio on Viasat Sport, and with both languages on their online service Viaplay.

As for verification: Sites that show TV programming don't go that far yet but this is how it's been for years. And Viasat has sole rights for the broadcast in Finland. They have shown the whole season, and will show both the AFC an NFC finals as well as Pro Bowl Skills Showdown, Reese's Senior Bowl and Pro Bowl. These are verifiable here: https://viaplay.fi/urheilu/am-football/nfl/saints-rams/20559141 https://viaplay.fi/urheilu/am-football/nfl/chiefs-patriots/20559142 https://viaplay.fi/urheilu/am-football/nfl-network/2019-pro-bowl-skills-showdown/20554729 https://viaplay.fi/urheilu/am-football/nfl-network/2018-reeses-senior-bowl/20559144 https://viaplay.fi/urheilu/am-football/nfl/nfl-pro-bowl-2019/20559143

Super Bowl Link's arrive in a week or so.

As far as I know this is also accurate to Sweden, Norway and Denmark (Finland is 100% sure). --Arseen (talk) 05:34, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Half Time performance[edit]

Shouldn't the halftime performance box say, "Maroon 5, featuring Travis Scott and Big Boi"? Since they are not the main act, like the SB 49 Page says, "Katy Perry featuring Lenny Kravitz" or the 48 page says, "Bruno Mars featuring Red Hot Chili peppers"? Exadajdjadjajdsz (talk) 03:53, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The proposed wording suggests Travis Scott and Big Boi are part of Maroon 5. The current wording does not give that false implication. Kd4ttc (talk) 20:35, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see how the proposed wording implies that they are part of Maroon 5. In fact, by mentioning them explicitly, it's clear that they're not part of the band. – PeeJay 20:58, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Is the online reaction to the Spongebob clip mentionable / worth mentioning? --IIRawcodeII (talk) 03:02, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I think it is worth mentioning The Mysterious Man 42 (talk) 04:11, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It already is mentioned--Fradio71 (talk) 04:56, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Double Dare at the Super Bowl[edit]

The start of the program stated it was brought to you by Nickelodeon and the NFL. Does that mean it could be included here as an associated event?--Fradio71 (talk) 19:59, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Missing references in the background section[edit]

Folks, you'll need to fix the refs in the background section (too many unsourced paragraphs) if you want this article on the main page when the game concludes. --LaserLegs (talk) 23:18, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Game summary[edit]

We need one, in prose style, for WP:ITN/C. I hate the Patriots and so am not so interested in providing one on this game. – Muboshgu (talk) 03:00, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Records Broken[edit]

This Super Bowl broke the record of the lowest points scored in a Super Bowl. The last lowest point game had 21 points from the Miami Dolphins. This year the New England Patriots broke the record with 16 points total, winning with 14 points. Loke TGSM (talk) 03:15, 4 February 2019 (UTC) The game also included the Super Bowl's longest punt. Johnny Hekker (L.A. Rams) punted the ball 65 yards beating out Ryan Allen's (Patriots) previous record of 64 yards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.232.142.25 (talk) 02:52, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 4 February 2019[edit]

Please change "Brady became the first player ever to with 6 Super Bowls" to "Brady became the first player ever to win 6 Super Bowls". Game Summary, last paragraph, second-last sentence. Bazbt3 (talk) 12:41, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

 Done. Thanks, 72 (talk) 13:27, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Counterprogramming?[edit]

I did a quick check on the pages of the past few SB's and none of them have a "Counterprogramming" section. It seems pointless here (not to mention reads very much like a promotion to me). I am going to remove it. Vyselink (talk) 19:16, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not only that but it was one program being described. And it wasn't even anything about what the other broadcast networks. Let alone that FXX knew what it was doing when it scheduled the movie of the show whose reruns it boasts most to run twice so that would take it to the end of the game--Fradio71 (talk) 19:35, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Pre-game notes-- Inaccuracy[edit]

"it was only the second time since 1969 that two cities' MLB and NFL teams have competed for the league title in the same season (or calendar year)."

As worded, this is not only awkward, but inaccurate. It gives underserved credence to a common misconception that the New York Jets and New York Mets both won world championships in their respective 1969 seasons. They did not.

The 2018 season was the first time such an event had happened since the inception of the Super Bowl. The entry should read:

"it was the first time during the Super Bowl era that two cities' MLB and NFL teams have competed for the league title in the same season."

This can be cited at pro-football-reference.com and at baseball-reference.com. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Malbuff (talkcontribs) 18:44, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

References for game summary - removing warning template[edit]

Hello. My understanding of WP:V is that a piece of media is a perfectly good reference for itself. A book serves as a reference for its own plot summary. A game is a reference for its game summary. One does not need an outside source to summarize a thing that anybody can view directly. As encyclopedia writers we read media and summarize. Please remove any opinions or synthesis that are not a straight recitation of the facts of what happened. See Wikipedia:How_to_write_a_plot_summary#Citations for a good explanation. Jehochman Talk 12:56, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Could the editors who are working on this article please try to add secondary sources as references for the game summary? It is not entirely easy for somebody outside the United States to find a video of the game to watch. Referencing to a reliable secondary source would be better. What's here now is just barely ok. We should try to make it better. Jehochman Talk 14:57, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
