Dean Cain's Statement[edit]

The way Dean Cain's statement is reported in this article makes his remark seem homophobic, when in reality he was simply saying that, in light of other characters' comings-out, doing the same in a Superman title was not an especially bold move. He went on to criticize the writing direction the series was taking, in terms that had nothing to do with the character's sexuality or gender politics.
