surdas born blind, or blinded himself?

i thought the story was, that surdas was not born blind, but he blinded himself thinking he would not be swayed by desire if he could not see with his eyes.

I also learn the same thing in my Childhood that Surdas is not Born Blind but he make himself blind because he believe that all external world is myth and to get real knowledge he should sacrifice eyes to realise internal GOD which is within himself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.201.231.35 (talk) 09:56, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Bhagat Surdas and Surdas the same!

Bhagat Surdas is the same as Surdas and the articles should be merged. Many websites, including http://www.poetry-chaikhana.com/S/Surdas/index.htm state it, which states

"As with other bhakti poets, the poetry of Surdas was also reverently incorporated into the Sikh holy book, the Guru Granth Sahib." VickSPaul (talk) 01:10, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

  • It would appear someone has "merged" them. Now someone needs to fix the article so that they're actually merged, and not just shoved together into one article. --V2Blast (talk) 23:56, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Bhagat Surdàs whose verse figures in the Guru Granth Sãhib is to be differentiated from the blind poet of the same name who wrote Sür Sagar. DebashisMTalk 11:32, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

How to de-merge? This is why Wikipedia is not to be believed at times. DebashisMTalk 11:32, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

God knows who merged the two articles. Now, when a disclaimer is being given, it is being pointed out that it is not an original research by a foreigner. If this attitude is to continue, then Wikipedia would change the way our history stands. DebashisMTalk 19:04, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
