Last sentence

The last sentence seems to be outdated - I was tempted to delete it. Does anyone know enough current information to update it? Piha 03:01, 31 Oct 2003 (UTC)

My cleanup idea

Get rid of the Guatemala section as it has a seperate Wiki as well as the Survivor Trivia part. Remove all non Survivor information from the timeline (like MB pitching Contender, Apprentice etc.). That's some of my ideas. -- WestJet

Good ideas. I think the main problem with this article is it is far too long. I'd also like to see the Survivor Contestants sections as a separate page, and possibly a rewrite of some current sections to make them more concise. Jtrost 00:24, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

Torches snuffed out?

What does "torched snuffed out" mean? Anybody care to explain, and fix the article?

--Sesse 23:57, Aug 5, 2004 (UTC) After a survivor has been voted off the island Jeff Probst (in the american version) takes a large candle-snuffer and puts out their torch. --AdamJacobMuller T@lk Thu Dec 23 07:47:46 GMT 2004

Hepatitis

There is a pointer from the Hepatitis article to Survivor. I presume this means two people exchanged shaving materials and an infection resulted. Anyone have any details?

Concept History

How can concept history be covered without a reference to Big Brother and the term 'Reality TV'?

Accurately, since Expedition Robinson premiered in 1997, while Big Brother premiered in 1999. (In the U.S., Survivor premiered in 2000, several months before Big Brother did, and it was filmed many months before that.) Reference to reality television is made in the first sentence of the article. --Arteitle 16:37, Aug 26, 2004 (UTC)

Sue Hawk

Sue Hawk does NOT qualify as someone who was never voted out of her tribe, as she was voted out in her original season. Jenna Morasca, the other All-Star quitter, DOES count, as she won her previous season, and therefore left All-Stars without ever being voted off. [[User:Mo0|Mo0[talk]]] 04:41, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Agh! No spoiler warning!

I am working my way through the seasons of Survivor. I do not want to see who won each one! I do, however, want to be able to read info on where each season's episodes were set etc. Someone needs to remove the names of winning contestants and put them in a list at the end, with a spoiler warning: ({{spoiler}}).

I would just do it myself, but obviously to do that I ...

Chamaeleon 22:52, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I added a SPOILER WARNING to my worldwide list of Survivor games, and hope that it is not too late. DonBruce 16:31, 7 August 2005 (UTC)

Popularity poll - delete?

Would anyone mind if I delete the section in misc. about most popular and least popular Survivors? That is based only on the Survivor polls (season by season) at the CBS website, and is highly subjective. It only comments on who is most or least popular in that season, at that time. --JamesB3 14:27, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

"Best Survivor moments according to Survivor: All-Stars" section

Is there a basis for the list in the section "Best Survivor moments according to Survivor: All-Stars" or is it simply User:66.9.199.124's favourite moments? It seems POV, and was deleted once by User:RickK as such. If anyone can provide a source for this list or write a little blurb to explain it in the article it would be appreciated. Or if you feel it should be removed, I'd definitely support that. --NormanEinstein 02:46, 7 May 2005 (UTC)

If I remember correctly, during "Survivor: America's Tribal Council" they had some clips as they went into commercial which listed the "Best Survivor Moments". This recap references the moments. --JamesB3 12:25, 7 May 2005 (UTC)

Move the "Trivia/Interesting Facts" to separate page?

That section takes up a huge amount of space. I was hoping to include a section on some of the show's legsl issues (Stacey's lawsuit, a challenge error in season 3, etc.) but don't want to do so when the maximum amount of room has already been used on this page. Can I move the Trivia/Facts section to a new page? --JamesB3 12:59, 23 May 2005 (UTC)

Can you add the winner of Survivor France 2004 ?

I'm new

He is called Philippe and he won the 4th edition of Survivor France (year : 2004)

Thank you

I have added Philippe. Thank you for this information. DonBruce 16:29, 7 August 2005 (UTC)

If anyone else knows about any games, locations, and winners, please let me know so I can add them to the chart. DonBruce 13:04, 13 August 2005 (UTC)

What we don't have here at 'Survivor'...

  • ...is a cast list followed by a summary of each episode of each season, like many of the other reality TV shows have here at Wikipedia. DonBruce 13:17, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
  • Actually we do have it. I just never found it, at least not till recently. Duh! Here it is! DonBruce 13:18, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

survivors table

i just redid the table of survivors, splitting it into one table for each season. however, i kind of wonder whether it woudl be better to just repoint people to the individual season articles, which have nicer, color-coded tables....? Anastrophe 21:39, 20 November 2005 (UTC)

well, the tables were nice - and thanks to jtrost for the addition of the links - but the page is really way too long, and since all those details can be found in the separate pages for each individual season (with much nicer tables), i've removed the whole lot of it, and reordered the sections for a cleaner look and feel. i think in the main it works better. probably the 'expedition robinson' tables should be moved to the stub article on that show, which would also pretty dramatically streamline the survivor page. Anastrophe 04:09, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

Good edits. I also think the expedition robinson section should be moved to its appropriate wiki page. Above I suggested making the Survivor contestants section its own page so we'd have a quick reference to all the players. Once we get this fixed maybe we should have it peer reviewed. I'm not too familiar with the procedure to have the cleanup notice removed, but I'd like to get this article fixed soon. Jtrost 04:34, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

tribal council

i did a bit of cleanup of the top of the tribal council text. however, one stretch i'm not sure about - in the third bullet point: "The newest rule is the same as Marquesas, except that the players who were tied in votes would be immune, and everyone else would draw rocks". that doesn't sound right. it sounds like someone who wasn't voted for could be the one voted off? or was it meant to say that the players who were tied for votes would not *vote*? i'm confused....! Anastrophe 05:54, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

I edited that sentence out. It was misleading and confusing. I think the third bullet point sounds good now. Jtrost 23:33, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

External Links

I've done some more cleanup on the Chronology and also added two images to reduce the amount of whitespace. Then I was looking at the external links for Survivor USA and realized there's A LOT of them. Here's the list:

  1. RealityFanForum.com - Message Boards & Spoilers
  2. Reality TV Magazine: Survivor - Reports on Survivor news
  3. Survivor.com
  4. UK Gameshows Page: Survivor
  5. R2TV.com
  6. realityshack.com
  7. Unofficial Survivor Guide Forums
  8. Survivor All-Stars - The Complete Season
  9. Survivor Skills
  10. Google Earth Survivor Locations
  11. The Official CBS website
  12. Survivor: The Comic Series
  13. Jefferios: Survivor Media
  14. [2] Survivor Sucks is the largest 'discusion' of reality TV games online
  15. [3] Survivor Fever is a breaking news, information, and spoiler site
  16. [4] Survivor News is another breaking news, information, and spoiler site

(Note that the last three are citations)

Do we really need all of these? A lot of these seem to be fansites that offer a lot of the same information. Personally, I only go to Survivor Sucks and Survivor News. I would suggest keeping the Google Earth Survivor Locations, the official CBS website, and the three citations. I think everything else needs to go. What does everyone else think? Jtrost 23:10, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

That's pretty sick, so wat if all of it have the same infos and who cares if u only go to 3sites ur not the only one using internet there's also peoples that go in those sites ur harsh u don't know how hard to build a site and yes the links that u erased should be back, keep it back! and the new pic has nothing to do with the premise.--Hotwiki 07:19, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
I'm assuming that you're upset because I removed your website from that list. Jtrost 13:45, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
I'm sorry but in those 16 links that u listed my site is not included, all those sites are still active specially the forums.--Hotwiki 07:47, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
Your site was not listed because you added it after I made this talk page topic. Regardless, what I think it boils down to is that most of those sites do not meet these requirements. Jtrost 13:25, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
Watever--Hotwiki 13:43, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Pulau Tiga moved to Borneo

I moved Pulau Tiga to Borneo and switched the redirects and modified the template. If several people object, feel free to switch it back, but Borneo is the common name (it even says to in the article). Deckiller 01:47, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Game Rules -- Guatemala and Australia

During one episode in Guatemala, members of the Yaxha tribe
visited the Nakum tribe and invited them back to their camp for a birthday party.
There is no indication as to whether the rule has changed or if this was a one-time event.

Just thinking about that episode, I remember that no one from Yaxha actually went up to the Nakum Camp, they stayed in the boat and shouted up. Once back at the Yaxha camp, the Nakum tribe stayed confined to the area of the floating swimming area, so i'm just thinking that this might be the reason that this rule was not violated, because *technically* they didn't set foot in each others camps. Just a thought.

We should also really mention how in the 2nd season Survivor: Australia Survivors actually did visit a TV Crew compound when Michael Skupin was injured and left the game. For those who don't remember of have never seen the 2nd season (HIGHLY reccomended -- it really is the best season of the show IMHO) Skupin was taken back to a TV Crew tent thing while they waited for the heliocopter to arrive. This is probably also worth mentioning there. AdamJacobMuller 17:56, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

No idea what does this mean

"2003 Survivor versus I'm A Celebrity... court case was decided in favor of Celebrity."

Google Earth POIs

I'm putting this here per WP:EL, I put together a google earth KML file based on Dan Bollingers maps of Survivor which is considerably more comprehensive than the KML file that is linked from here. I posted it here Just to summarize, based on WP:EL

  • Sites with other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article, such as textbooks or reviews.
    • Definitely, i think it's relevant and for the moment it's not possible or practical to put the KML on wikipedia in some way (though it does give me a cool idea for a Google Earth Wiki).
  • Sites that primarily exist to sell products or services.
    • nope, not selling a thing.
  • Sites with objectionable amounts of advertising
    • I had a single google ads banner, but I earned like .02c in a year so I took it off :P
  • A website that you own or maintain (unless it is the official site of the subject of the article). If it is relevant and informative, mention it as a possible link on the talk page and wait for someone else to include it, or include the information directly in the article.
    • here I am.

So, feel free to put it on the page, or even just link directly to the KMZ file I suppose. Just want to do the "right thing (tm)" here.

Removed Controversy

  • In the Second Season of Survivor, Colby Donaldson Illegaly removed corals from the great barrier reef to give to the Barramundi tribe to benefit his standing in the game. CBS faced major Legal problems with the Australian Government. Also, according to Survivor Rules, if you break a Local OR an INTERNATIONAL LAW, a Contestant will be disqualified from the game. Colby was not... which changed the entire outcome of Survivor: The Australian outback

I removed this from the article, it's totally unreferenced and it reeks of NPOV, can someone reference this or have some clue if this has *any* validity. At least, I think that the rule in the game refers to violations of the law within the context of the game. AdamJacobMuller 06:45, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

I remember that being all over the news after the episode aired. I think if we can find a source we can rewrite it and include it again. Thanks for catching that! Jtrost 15:36, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

Frontpage Image

AdamMuller please stop changing the image on the front page, the Exile Island logo that is used is an old screengrab from the reunion episode of Guatemala and looks out of place amogst the other clearer images. There is absolutely no order to the logos, makes zero sense. Furthermore, the Palau logo is oddly shaped. If you don't like the image I put up then make your own, but until you're willing to do that, leave it how it is. HeyNow10029 07:48, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

You should discuss big changes you wish to make to the article before following through with them. You're not the only person who edits this article, and you should gauge other author's opinions first. I think the image that's on there now would be perfect if it didn't have the text under it. The text is much too small to read to be considered accessible, and provides unnecessary information since each logo is available on each season's article. So remove that text and I will be happy. Jtrost 13:41, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
It was hardly a big change, it was just a change that made sense. But I can reach a consensus, I removed the season name under the logos. HeyNow10029 19:27, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

Worst. Edit War. Ever. Seriously, guys...just hash this thing out here, come to a consensus, and stop this back and forth revert nonsense. The logos are probably the least important part of this entire article. -- MisterHand 19:19, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

Wow, definitely not worth that little edit war spat, I never should have reverted it and started that thing, didn't think it would start that little spat. Did someone change the one that's up there now? But, doesn't the one that HeyNow10029 put on there have the text under the images? I'm thoroughly confused. your right, totally doesn't matter. AdamJacobMuller 04:38, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
I disagree that this doesn't matter. The infobox image is the first thing that catches a person's eye when they come to the page, and it needs to be something simple and good looking. We can't have a bunch of useless text under each logo explaining what it is. Jtrost 13:44, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
Useless text that explains what it is? That makes zero sense, Wikipedia is meant as a dictionary tool for both people who watch Survivor religiously and people who have never even heard of Survivor. The text was the name of the particular season, so for people who have never seen an episode of Survivor it makes all the sense in the world. HeyNow10029 18:31, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
Wouldn't Survivor: America's Tribal Council be considered as one of the logos on the front page too? —Preceding unsigned comment added by PsychoJason (talkcontribs) February 26, 2006
