[edit]{{Requested move/dated|Susan Johnson}}
User:ANZLitLovers/Susan Johnson → Susan Johnson –
- New page for publication ANZLitLovers (talk) 01:37, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
- I think this is just a disambiguation issue: There are already half a dozen pages named Susan Johnson, including another author, an American writer of Romance. This page is about the Australian author Susan Johnson who writes literary fiction.
- Old page name (i.e. as per my draft) Susan Johnson; new page name (still) Susan Johnson; Reason for Move: this significant Australian author needs to be known by her correct name and should be added to Wikipedia! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:ANZLitLovers/Susan_Johnson#External_links
- Thanks for your help, I'm a newbie to making pages and I had trouble following the html instructions about how to make this request. I looked to see what others before me have done but nothing above looked like the instructions. Sorry!
- Comment I think the proposer actually means to move User:ANZLitLovers/Susan Johnson. The problem is that Susan Johnson is already a disambiguation page. I cannot see that this particular Susan Johnson is any more the primary use than any of the others. Would therefore suggest a move to Susan Johnson (Australian author), with the Yank moving to Susan Johnson (American author) or Susan Johnson (American novelist). [edit]- Yes, thank you for responding Skinsmore, I would be happy with that solution and have changed the name on the page to SJ Aust author, but don't know how to do any more than that. The file name still says just SJ.

- Query (I'm a newbie to all this moving contested pages stuff, treading very warily): I've been monitoring the placement of my page and two days after my request it still seems to be in limbo, and my Susan Johnson doesn't appear on the disambiguation page. That's ok, I got the impression that there was a 7-day lull to allow for any objections to be dealt with.
But on my watchlist page there's an entry from Anthony Appleyard that suggests it's been done. Does this mean he's made the changes and done the move and there's just a time delay? (Unlikely, that doesn't seem to be how Wikis work). Or does this mean that the change and move been approved and that I should now do something else to effect the changes? If so, I don't know how to. I need an administrator to take over renaming both the suggested pages and then move mine from draft to a real page. (See Wikipedia:Requested moves; 05:45 . . (-623) . . Anthony Appleyard (talk | contribs) (→Current requests: done 1) --ANZLitLovers (talk) 06:50, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
- I hope I can clear up some of the confusion here.
- Your watchlist shows only the most recent change to the "Requested moves" page. When you looked at your watchlist, the most recent change was that Anthony Appleyard had removed one request from the list of requests - but it wasn't your request that he had worked on. Your request is still there and hasn't been actioned.
- The "Requested moves" process isn't really intended for moving draft articles such as User:ANZLitLovers/Susan Johnson. Your draft can be moved to Susan Johnson (Australian author) as soon as it is ready. You could do this yourself using the "Move" link - you can find that by clicking on the little triangle at the top of the page, between the "heart" and the "Search" box.
- BUT I'm not sure that the draft is ready yet. Information at Wikipedia needs to be backed up by references to reliable sources; so far the article only mentions the author's own blog and a "Pandora" page that doesn't seem to say much. The article needs to show that other people have already written about this author. Have a look at WP:AUTHOR for the depth of coverage that is needed. This needs to be put right before the article is moved to its final title.
- Once the article has been moved, that will be the time to add this Susan Johnson to the list at Susan Johnson, and to rename Susan Johnson (novelist) to Susan Johnson (American novelist).

Thank you, John of Reading, you have a gentle touch when pointing out problems:) I have now added reliable sources all over the place and done a general tidyup. I have more info for the initial intro but need to find independent verifications for that before I add it. I had a look at CleanUp and have noted that I must add ISBNs, there is a template somewhere so I shall hunt for that or add them manually. So *deep breath* I have done as suggested and done the move, but
- (1) I have made a mistake somehow with the alphabetical order of categories and don't know how to fix it, i.e. in Women Writers Susan Johnson is showing up under Letter S instead of Letter J.
- (2) Where do I go to get this SJ added to the disambiguation list please?
Thanks for your help, Lisa—Preceding unsigned comment added by ANZLitLovers (talk) • contribs) 06:47, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
- Can you clarify your question? It may be the terminology used. To what are you referring when you speak of the "alphabetical order of categories"? What do you mean by "this SJ"? It looks like you found the ISBN template, but you'll probably want to review the Manual of Style for biographies. Let me know if you have additional questions. Cind.amuse (Cindy) 07:35, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hello Cindy, I'm responding to your clarification query: what I meant by the category/alpha order problem is that I have added Susan Johnson (SJ) to the category for Australian Women Writers and it's automatically added her to the list - but instead of showing up under J (because her surname begins with J) she's listed under S. I don't know what I've done wrong or how to fix it, or where to look in the manual for advice! Re the SJ: This new Susan Johnson (SJ) is an Australian author of fiction and non-fiction and there are half-a-dozen other Susan Johnsons on Wikipedia. On advice from 'Skinsmore' Problem 1: I renamed her page Susan Johnson (Australian Author) but I *should have* named it Susan Johnson (Australian author) because she also writes non-fiction. I don't know how to do this. *feeling very foolish at making a dumb mistake* (It's ok to make wikipedia mistakes when a newbie but facts about the author are my responsiblity and should be correct). Problem 2: When the page been renamed Susan Johnson (Australian author) this new Susan Johnson needs to be added to the disambiguation page. Thanks for your help, Lisa PS It's 18.06 here in Melbourne Australia! ANZLitLovers (talk) 08:07, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
- I fixed the category and the renaming, by myself!
- But for the disambiguation issue...um... I still need your help with that please. Lisa ANZLitLovers (talk) 08:36, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
- Looks like everything's good to go. I added her to the dab page. Let me know if you have more questions, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 09:43, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
- Yikes, looks like you were editing at the same time as me. It's 2AM now and I'm too tired to compare and merge the edits like I'm supposed to. I've taken a copy of my edits and will work on it later. ANZLitLovers (talk) 16:08, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
- Dang. Sorry about that. Essentially what I did was cleanup the article. 1. removed the linkrot; 2. removed the forthcoming section; 3. removed nonnotable nominations from the awards (only add those that were received); 4. I removed the external link to the blog, since it's linked from the official site already; and 5. I cleaned up the published works section. If you can add the ISBN-13, rather than 10, that would help. Generally when I add maintenance tags, it serves as a reminder for me to go back and fix the issues that I noticed. I wish there was a way that the system would let us see if others are working on the article at the same time. Let me know if you have questions. Cind.amuse (Cindy) 16:27, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
- No worries, it gave me an opportunity to learn how to do tables for awards. (Though now that I've done it I think I prefer the way this section is laid out in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kate_Grenville.)

- re 3: I've put the 'nonnotable nominations' back in, they are an indication of this author as a 'middle-ranking' notable author in Australia, confirm her status as a notable writer without which her notability would look less well established, (whereas in fact she is considered so significant that the National Library has archived her papers and is actively archiving her blog). Furthermore, one of the notable things about her is that she has been nominated so many times but never won a major award. (The issue of women writers being sidelined for awards is a 'live' issue in Australia, leading to the recent creation of The Stella Award for Women Writers (similar to The Orange Prize for Women). BTW I checked other notable Oz author pages e.g. Peter Carey's & Tim Winton and they have 'nonnotable nominations' included.
- re 5: What should be done with older works that have the old ISBN not the new 13 digit one? I used the NLA (National Library of Australia) Trove archive as a reference for these. If I do find a 13 digit ISBN for these older works (an online bookseller is all I can think of a source for this) wouldn't that mess up the validity of the reference?
