More info[edit]

Might be able to help a little here. (It's been a while, and the baseball pages give me something to do in the offseason.) A few thoughts:

  • The rule about suspended games just changed in MLB either this year or last. I recall that if a game was tied at the point it was called, it was declared "no game" and replayed from the beginning. However, everybody's individual stats DID count. I think the first one to played in the "new" way was the Florida game back in April or May, which went 13 innings over two nights and featured one of those classic Marlins' tarp crew incidents.
  • In the minors, by rule, if a game is suspended and continued before another scheduled game (thus forming a doubleheader), the regular game is reduced to 7 innings. I believe I added this factoid to the doubleheader (baseball) article.
    • I just saw that the above DH article is tagged as needing sources, but there are no "cite needed" markers in the text. I may be able to help if someone can narrow down exactly what's being challenged.
  • I saw the note at the end about a guy theoretically playing for both teams. That actually happened in 1986, a game between Richmond and Syracuse. Game was started in May and not continued until July (I think), and a player named Dale Holman was traded between the two clubs in the interim. The HOF has a blurb about him (and two baseball cards), and you can search for him online also. Not sure if it's happened any other times.
  • As for the Bonds controversy (shocker! another Bonds controversy!), there is a scorekeeping rule (10.23(d)) that says all performances in a suspended game are treated as occurring on the original date. Might be worth referencing.

Thoughts? Let me know if any of these seem worthy of addition. -- dakern74 (talk) 21:43, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Some excellent points to research further when I get the chance. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 22:34, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

More Questions[edit]

If a suspended game is finished days or weeks later, are the standings re-stated for all the days between the start date and the completion date? If the eventual losing team had been briefly tied for first place during the suspended period, is that team treated as if never having been in first place? If a team involved in a suspended game had won 5 games prior to the suspended game and won its next 5, does it have a 10-game win streak, or does one have to wait for the result of the game, in which case it has an 11-game win streak or two smaller 5-game winning streaks with one loss in between?Juve2000 (talk) 20:07, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can a game be suspended twice? could a game be suspended in the 6th, and then let's say a month later could the game get suspended again? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1012:B159:DFCF:6CC4:765C:B442:7E0E (talk) 05:10, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
