Redirects[edit]

I have put in a redirect for Sutton St Nicholas, Herefordshire to here. Wasn't sure whether to put in one for Sutton St Michael, Herefordshire (but have done so since at least one other article mentions it) and/or for the case where St has a period after it. I also note that Sutton St Nicholas is a redirect to Lutton, Lincolnshire. I'm inclined to think the last should be renamed to Sutton St Nicholas, Lincolnshire but not sure about a disambiguity page --Erp (talk) 03:40, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think your redirects are fine. 'Nicholas' and 'Michael' were separate civil parishes until merger in the mid-19th after which the then joined parishes were officially idented as 'Sutton', but with the 'St Nicholas' still referred as such occasionally... a typical case of local historical name blending over time. I think the case of Lutton/St Nicholas is the same. Lutton is the official parish name and includes the parish village of Lutton, sometimes (locally) referred to as St Nicholas. It should remain as Lutton... see road signs and the church's 'St. Nicholas, Lutton' info-board (street view). These seeming anomalies that occur (occasionally) might be something to do with confusion between earlier ecclesiastical parishes and later civil parishes which could historically broadly cover the same geographic area.
