In "Half a Loaf: The Shift from White to Black Teachers in the Negro Schools of the Urban South, 1865-1890" by Howard N. Rabinowitz in The Journal of Southern History Vol. 40, No. 4 (Nov., 1974), pp. 565-594 he states it was establushed in October 1866 and served 200 students growing to 700 stusents within its first 8 months.

The dates conflixt with what's in the entry. Could he be mixing up Swayne School that preceded Talladega College with Swayne Collwge? He does say Montgomery which would be this school.

Sourcing

[edit]

@Devonian Wombat can you clarify your sourcing concerns? I just tweaked the layout some and added in a little more about the site, but I think it's well sourced given we're talking about a school that existed from 1869-1937. I'd be inclined to accept it if FA re-submitted it now, but didn't want to toe step. @FloridaArmy I saw Draft:Booker T. Washington School (Montgomery, Alabama) per our talk page conversation. What isn't clear to me is whether that is the same school as the one linked in this article, which has renamed but appears to be the same building per this source. Thoughts?
