English name?
[edit]I see that the referenced US webpage indeed uses the translation "Swedish Landrace" for Svensk Lantras, which looks quite horrible in my eyes. Lant- (can also be land- in other constructions) means "country-" or "rural-", while ras ("race") is usually translated as "breed" when it refers to animals. Whether "Swedish country breed" or something similar is understood I don't know, but then it might be better to move the poor goat to its Swedish name with redirects from other versions. Name
[edit]Dear Tomas E, Thank you for your contribution on this page. I understand the difficulty with proper translation of the name. However, I believe the English equivalent of this breed's name derives not only from translation but from a title given to generally- related goat breed types of Northern Europe (incl. Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Holland). Therefore the title "Landrace" denotes a general type of goat rather than a translation. Consequently, I believe the name in English should remain "Swedish Landrace." Again, thank you for your interest in providing accuracy to this article. - Hello, good to see that confirmed. (It is not that uncommon to see half-translated terms from other languages on enwp.) Tomas e (talk) 11:46, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
