Unsourced death notification[edit]

I have deleted the sentence "Sylvia passed away on 6th March 2022" from the primary biography of the author. This was inserted with no source, and a fairly thorough Google search was unable to locate any verification of this claim. If the editor who inserted this wishes to add it back, they should provide some kind of sourcing or verification. Darrah (talk) 15:56, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

My name is Peter Waugh. I did the edit on my Mother's profile last June. My username is listed in the edits. This information is correct. 77.95.32.98 (talk) 19:22, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A reliable source is needed for this information, please see WP:RELIABLE for what sources can be used. Also, if you have a close relationship with the subject then you should avoid editing the page directly, please see WP:COI for information on Wikipedia's policy on conflict of interests. Peter: Do you know of any secondary source that would list your mother's death? Something like a newspaper obituary, a funeral parlor notice, or something like that? As you can tell, Wikipedia is pretty stringent about their sourcing, but they've had tons of problems in the past with people listing incorrect things about someone, and that person getting pretty upset about it. Someone seems to have removed the death notice AGAIN disguising it as "removed unsourced info". While I could not find newspaper obits, I could find external sources for deathdate on multiple biographical databases around the internet: https://www.librarything.com/author/waughsylvia, https://isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?2244 (which IS linked from the page and arguably counts as a secondary source for deathdate), https://sf-encyclopedia.com/fe/waugh_sylvia, and https://news.ansible.uk/a428.html (which is certainly AN obit in a periodical, but sadly mostly references this edit war) Joshua Kronengold (talk) 08:52, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
