Helpless article should be removed[edit]

This is not a real campaign or battle, its just a collection of skirmishes who cannot change anything fundamentaly, that happened in the whole country for years and between different factions, it's not usefull to make an article about that, if we did that for every exchange of shooting, this page will be full with hundreds of battles, let's focus on important battles who significant forces are involved. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.233.227.191 (talk) 18:58, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

With all due respect this is a large offensive in two governorates and a large area not an "exchange of shooting" 3bdulelah (talk) 20:25, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your point of view, but whatever the outcome of this battle, the gains from one side to the other can be reversed in one day without anyone talking about it because the syrian desert is objectively uncontrollable like any desert, it's maybe possible to cut it in zones of influence and even this one can be fluctuating. This offensive is more media than other things, the rebels in the region surely need to show that they are fighting isis to hope to receive US help, but I maintain that nothing really serious happens there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.233.227.191 (talk) 01:06, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I follow this war closely, these positions have been under IS control since 2014, rebel aim to reach bir Qasab which is an important position that used to give them free movement b/w North and South 3bdulelah (talk) 19:47, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Southern Syrian Desert offensive"[edit]

Not found a better name? Beshogur (talk) 18:05, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Agree, should be named just "Syrian Desert campaign 2017", since its expanded outside just the southern part of the desert. GroundlessAir (talk) 11:15, 10 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Split[edit]

Why are we mixing Qalamoon battle with Syrian Desert battle, totally different battles with different factions, the only faction participating in both is Jaysh Usood al-Sharqyah 3bdulelah (talk) 00:07, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Because the goal of the rebels in both fronts is to connect with each other. The frontlines are very blurry, that's why I named this page a wide campaign and not an offensive. Splitting this into two articles would make both stubs since the battle is almost over anyways. Editor abcdef (talk) 01:12, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I like it. EkoGraf (talk) 12:33, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Then we should rename the article because the Eastern Qalamon isn't "desert", how about we keep this article for the old offnsive and open another one under the name: 2017 Southeastern Syria offnsive which will include battles in Eastern Qalamon, Syrian desert and Lajat area in Daraa? I agree with you these are connected battles somehow because rebel goal is to connect Qalamon to the Desert and IS withdraw from Lajat, Daraa to Bair Qasab. However, this battle isn't over yet and still ongoing 3bdulelah (talk) 18:03, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Eastern Qalamoun is an arid, barren desert. However, I agree that there should be two articles, one for the Dec. 2016 - Apr. 2017 campaign, and the other for the current southeastern desert campaign. Editor abcdef (talk) 05:21, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
