Long name[edit]

With a name like "Popular Front for the Liberation of the Sanjak of Alexandretta" they certainly sound irredentist and anti-Turkish... AnonMoos (talk) 01:51, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Or rather Syrian nationalist, as the article already states. FunkMonk (talk) 01:53, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
However, the name would seem to indicate going beyond general "Syrian nationalism" (a phrase which can have several meanings) to reopen one specific 70-year-old dispute with Turkey, in retaliation for Turkish policies... AnonMoos (talk) 01:58, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It was named such long before the current dispute. It is not a novel sentiment. Syria never accepted the ceding of Antakiya, Iskanderoun, etc, but never really acted against it either, being too weak compared to Turkey. FunkMonk (talk) 03:19, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
were they not formed in 2011. Sayerslle (talk) 02:08, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There were predecessor organisations (with Ural's involvement) with similar names at least all the way back to the 70s. FunkMonk (talk) 16:57, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ideology[edit]

The ideology is claimed to be Syrian nationalism and Marxism by all sources. Saysersslll is inventing stuff loosely based on a single POV source, and reverting more than once[1][2], in addition to witing lame stuff such as "idiot" in his edit summaries. We resolve it here, or he gets reported. FunkMonk (talk) 22:55, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

if Josh landis puts an article up on his site then he presumably thinks it is worthy of attention and the article says "However, beneath this image of Syrian nationalism and leftist ideology lies a more narrow sectarian emphasis on defending the Alawite and Twelver Shi’a communities." - that is , I believe, the kind of sentence that invites the thought 'a nod is good as a wink to a blind horse' - and indicates something rather essential to an understanding of this movements ideology and motivations. so saying 'The ideology is claimed to be Syrian nationalism and Marxism by all sources' - is stretching it - here is a source, endorsed one presumes to some degree by josh Landis , that claims the ideology is significantly inflected with sectarian accents - perhaps I am giving too much prominence to this strain in the source - but it is there ,funkmoth - oh dear, we neither of us can spell the others name - Richard Dimbleby could hardly bear to say Malcolm Muggeridge's name he so despised him- so this difficulty has a tradition, funkmot. Sayerslle (talk) 01:02, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Landis is biased. He has called for bombing Syria several times. Therefore it is POV and unbalanced. FunkMonk (talk) 01:22, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
