Both spellings “Tír Conaill” and “Tír Chonaill” seem to be used inconsistently throughout wikipedia. Surely as its an Irish term, the correct Irish spelling should be used (Tír Chonaill). Note that the Irish wikipedia uses the spelling “Tír Chonaill” throughout. Lucas42 03:10, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Yes, Tír Chonaill is the correct spelling in modern Irish, but Tír Conaill is what's in the New History of Ireland, volume 1, and what you'll find the The Oxford Illustrated History of Ireland. In volume 3 of the New History Tír Chonaill does appear in the index, but only to say "see Tyrconnell". Tír Conaill is the English name of the "kingdom", Tyrconnell is the "earldom", and Tír Chonaill is neither. Angus McLellan(Talk) 08:05, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The myriad spellings available for medieval things Celtic readily confuses the Mediterranean-oriented. Could these usages be clarified (medieval/modern/anglicisation/etc.) more accessibly in the various articles on Tyrconnell/Tír Conaill/Tír Chonaill? I support the move, it is time English moved into the 21st century.

Except that Tír Conaill and Tyrconnel appear in modern, reliable sources published by Four Courts or Gill & Macmillan, or written under the imprimatur of the Royal Irish Academy, while Tír Chonaill would be more appropriate only if this were Vicipéid.
