Crucial role in modernizing Chinese finance

[edit]

This article does not mention T. V. Soong's crucial role in Chinese finance: As Minister of Finance, in the early 1930's he abolished the silver tael and replaced it by the silver dollar. This had enormous consequences. It should be explained.

Birthplace changed back to Shanghai

[edit]

A recent edit changed Soong's birthplace to Beijing. All the biographical sources listed in the article, however, say that Soong was born in Shanghai, where his father Charles J. Soong was a prominent businessman. Do not change such well-sourced information without indicating what your source is and explaining why it is preferable over Boorman or Seagrave. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rgr09 (talkcontribs) 05:05, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

TV Soong did NOT attend Columbia nor did he have a PhD

[edit]

TV Soong did not attend Columbia -- never mind receiving a PhD from there, like often appears in this article. Any reader of "The Soong Dynasty" knows that. It seems Taiwanese fanboys are more concerned with projecting "face" onto this guy than disseminating the truth. That article that is sometimes cited as proof he received a PhD from Columbia, by the way, is hosted on a nonsense domain and is in fact a terribly plagiarized article from the Wikipedia page itself!

Actually TV Soong attended graduate school at Columbia between 1915-1917. He also received honorary PhD's from Columbia and Yale in 1971. Would whoever left that unsigned comment please tell me on what page in <The Soong Dynasty> does it say T.V. Soong didn't go to Columbia?

Some mention of T.V. Soong's connection to organized crime should be included. His Triad ties are well-known and well documented, including in Martin Booth's history of the Triads Dragon Syndicates. This is all significant so that researchers see that much of the KMT's work was funded with Triad money.
