I separated this off into its own section in order to expand the LHC info and add mentions of T2K and OPAL. HEL 16:09, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

TRIUMF IS NOT OPERATED BY UNIVERSITIES AS PER UBC, I HAVE BEEN VICTIMISED BY TRIUMF MANAGEMENT AND SO I WAS LOOKING FOR THE JURISDICTION AND TRIUMF IS SEEM TO BE A VERY MUCH PRIVATE COMPANY THAN ANY THING ELSE ALL THE CLAIMS OF IT BEING CANADA'S NATIONAL LAB ARE NOT BACKED BY ANY REALITY. THESE ARE ONLY PRESUMPTIONS. THE NATIONAL LABS ARE FOR RESEARCH NOT FOR PROFIT MAKING BUSINESS, WHILE TRIUMF IS A INCOME ORIENTED COMPANY AND IT DOES NOT PAY BACK TO GOVERNMENT. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.87.137.169 (talk) 00:47, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please, everyone ignore this, as an employee of TRIUMF whose pay comes through UBC, I can tell you that this comment is incorrect.

Confusion about H- vs proton

[edit]

According to TRIUMF facilities, they accelerate both H- and proton, but the current text is a bit confusing; or rather it does not make this point clear. Can anybody confirm and fix this? I'm no expert on the matter. --Memming (talk) 17:47, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your link correctly explains that the main TRIUMF cyclotron accelerates H- ions in the actual cyclotron. The ions spiral outwards, and at the outer edge, the electrons are stripped, resulting in H+ ions (protons). The protons travel down the proton beamlines where additional magnets can accelerate (or deccelerate) them to the energies required for the individual experiments. I think this is clear enough on the page. --Tjw2007 04:27 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Correction about HERACLES

[edit]

I moved HERACLES from the ISAC-I facility to ISAC-II experimental area, because HERACLES is using ISAC-II exotic high energy beams. I think the TUDA's team should does the same thing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jaylowblow (talkcontribs) 05:43, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Discoveries section?

[edit]

Hello, I'd be great if there could be a section created on this page that highlights major discoveries and achievements that have been accomplished at the TRIUMF facility. They might be there buried within the "TRIUMF's Experiments" section, but it would be great if they could be pulled out and highlighted in a "major discoveries and achievements" section. Thanks!
