Zantigo Acquisiton

Taco Bell acquired the Faux-Mex restaurant chain Zantigo in 1986. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 205.213.111.51 (talk • contribs) 15:09, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Can't speak on the Zantigo acquisition, but the tidbit about the Chilito and its subsequent name change is entirely accurate.72.185.184.24 04:32, 10 May 2007 (UTC)BJH

Taco neck syndrome...

I don't remember exactly, but sometime between 95 and 98, taco bell launched an add campain where people would go to a doctors office or some such place, with their heads at a 90 degree angle. This was the result of them eating an incredible amount of taco bell tacos. As you should know, you tilt your head sideways to eat this. Shaq and some guy from the pistons participated in these commercials.

In the ads, Taco Neck Syndrome was identified by the acronym TNS, which is also an acronym for some type of neck disorder suffered by some number of people. I had heard it referred to as Turtle Neck Syndrome, but it was years ago and I don't really remember. In any case, Taco Bell was slapped with a lawsuit by the sufferers of TNS and promptly pulled the campaign.72.185.184.24 04:29, 10 May 2007 (UTC)BJH

Contradicting culprits

The article states "At this time, green onions, also known as scallions, are thought to be the source of the problem. As of December 14, Shredded lettuce appears to be the likely source of problem [4]"

It's a bit confusing as it is now. I don't know enough about the situation to rewrite it properly, though. Prometheus-X303- 16:19, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

All of the food samples provided to the local health departments during the Taco Bell E.coli outbreak tested negative for the virus. The direct cause of the outbreak is not known, other than that it did originate in a Taco Bell restaurant. 72.185.184.24 04:49, 10 May 2007 (UTC)BJH

Actually the E.Coli was in the iceburg lettuce, Taco Bell had believed that it was in the green onions, as it was a few years prior to then. I was working for the company at that time, although the green onions that was affected were not directly related to Taco Bell, the green onions were temporarily removed to reduce consumer concern. During the New Jersey, New York incident, the green onions were thought to be affected, however after a lot of testing it was shown to be in the iceburg, which was not removed, therefore allowed more people to be hurt. In fact, the only food at Taco Bell or any restaurant that is the single most dangerous food is lettuce. It is a food that cannot be taken out of the danger zone (40 to 140 degrees) without ruining it. The company faced a serious judgement regarding the lack of action towards the icebur lettuce, but many if not most people are unaware of the fact that the lettuce was infected due to the economic impact it will cause to consumers of all restaurants. Slogans

Are all those really Taco Bell slogans? Look at the KFC slogans. Souced, dated, and identified by country (for the most part) Shouldn't this list be like that?

I searched for Taca-taca-taca-taca-taca-taca Taco Bell!, and the only exact match I could find (that wasn't a copy of Wikipedia) was some off-beat post in a forum. Prometheus-X303- 16:36, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

List of Menu Items

There should be a page devoted to listing the items taco bell sells takethemud 00:43, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

UPDATE: I made one, it's accessible from the Taco Bell page.
What about menu discrepancies? For example, Fries Supreme are served at Canadian locations and some combos come with this. In the USA, there are no fries on the menu. Conversely, "Fire" sauce is available at US locations but only "Hot" sauce at Canadian sites. The 2 are not the same - in fact, Canada used to have fire sauce up to the mid-late 1990s. 24.57.195.9 01:10, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

This is true. There are menu variations in different parts of the country, and certainly in different parts of the world. In regards to the fire sauce availability, it only appeared in the US in 97. At what point did Taco Bell in Canada start offering it?72.185.184.24 04:51, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Current Events

I was wondering why this was labeled as a current event. meamemg 04:13, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Because of the E. Coli poisonings. The investigation is\was ongoing. Prometheus-X303- 14:29, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
As the templete inidcates that information should be "rapidly changing", and this content seems to be staying about the same for now (Haven't been any change to the ecoli information in at least 2 weeks, unless someone speaks up, I will remove the template. meamemg 22:59, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Current Promotional Item

I was realizing that this data is listed in the History section, perhaps we should give it it's own section elsewhere on the page? Current items don't really fit with History. --admiraljustin 19:26, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Trivia section

This section doesn't make sense to me and is not cited. "There is Yakov Smirnoff joke - "There are no Taco Bells in Russia. They didn't like the slogan, 'Run for the border'." " Should this be included? Shaybear♥

menu section

The menu section is relatively incomplete. I know the previous article Taco Bell menu was deleted, but I think this section could have more details and other information than it does now. As a comparison, see the articles for other restaurants. FrozenPurpleCube 02:41, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Secret Menu?

There is a section about a secret menu that must be ordered from discreetly only at the drive through, that "scholars have confirmed". On the list are tequila and nachos galacticos. I'm removing the entire section. Rajb245 16:18, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Logo history

I don't think they've used the same logo from 1969-1999. If you look at commercials from the 1980s, they used an older logo, so the information about logo history might be incorrect. --PsychoJason 05:33, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

I don't know that the same logo was used for 20+ years, but up until 1995 or so a very old logo was in use and can still be seen at some older locations, that being a stationary, yellow bell against a red mission style backdrop with green and orange bars along the bottom half of it. Usually seen on a brownish sign.

Yes, the one near my hometown still has the "classic" logo. Anyone know where we can find an image of that? WAVY 10 16:42, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Clarification: The signage on the actual building is the "classic" logo, while the sign has been changed to the current one for some time. WAVY 10 Fan 18:17, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Border Bell?

I remember someone telling me about an attempt to open higher-end "Border Bell" stores or something like that. Does anyone have any information on this? If so, it might be worth including in the article... Nate 02:49, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

In 12 years with the company, I have never heard anything of the sort. At this point in time, I would say the information you have is false.72.185.184.24 04:55, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Googling last time, I didn't find anything, but here's a few links to references:

...in any event, sounds like a failed experiment of little consequence, so other than here in talk it's probably not worth including in the article, but if anyone cares to, there are some references. Nate 21:53, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Clean-up Tag

I put the tag because, for the logos, I saw that one part said the rainbow logo was 1969-1999, but then another part said it was changed to the current logo in 1995. Either it is an error, or it needs to be specified that the rainbow logo was used as a secondary logo from 1995-1999. Black Kat 20:19, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Sour Creme Controversy

Why is there no mention of the incident were some white guy jacked off in the Sour Creme? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 4.68.248.200 (talk) 21:21, 11 May 2007 (UTC).

  • That was just a clip from a 1980s Taco Bell commercial that can be viewed on www.retrojunk.com under the title "50 Ways To Leave Your Burger". That incident in the ad never actually happened. :) 65.34.126.252 19:40, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Bottled Sauce

Why can't you buy Taco Bell's delicious sauce (easily the best there is) in stores? There are ready to assemble taco bell dinner meals, with some shells and seasoning and (presumably) sauce, but you can't just buy bottles of sauce!! WHY?

You can buy the sauce at stores. They only sell the mild and the hot, but it is available. I have seen it at safeway and albertsons, and a few smaller grocery stores. On a funny note, you can use fire sauce to clean pennies..when I worked graveyard at Taco Bell, we would get many dirty coins. Most were sticky, and we used hot soapy water to clean them, but by accident I found that you can use fire sauce. If you want to test it out.. get a dirty penny place half a packet of fire sauce on the surface and leave it there for at least five minutes.. longer is the dirt is thick. Afterwards, wash it with water, and the face of the penny will look brand new. LOL Demandalot 00:24, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Why has Wikipedia deleted the page for Taco Bell? It's too notable not to have a page Doc Strange 13:57, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Mascots

I was a manager at Taco Bell/KFC in 2000. as I recall there were two chiwawa mascots. The male of the two was named "Dinky" and the female, denoted only by the red and white polka-dot bow, was dubbed "Gidget." This is incorrect on the current site Tallon6352 22:21, 6 June 2007 (UTC)John B. 7Jun2007Tallon6352 22:21, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Menu Changes

My local Taco Bell no longer carries the Extreme Cheese and Beef Quesadilla. I don't see it on the website either.

Taco Bell used to have Extreme Nachos (it was a sort of 7-layer dip deal) and the Pocket Taco (it was a stuffed Pita pocket). This was back in the late 80s/early 90s. Both were my all time favorite menu items. Does anyone know how to ask Taco Bell to bring them back?Snoball (talk) 20:50, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

I do not see the Rancho Steak Burrito listed as one of the discontinued items. I live in New England, and it is not offered at any of the several locations in my area. Is it still available in other regions? (FUMBIE) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.192.190.149 (talk) 17:56, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Breakfast

I'm surprised not to see Taco Bell's breakfast menu mentioned at all. I'd personally be interested in their original breakfast menu, but at the very least the article should address that some Taco Bells serve breakfast to this day and also that in Fresno, CA and a couple other markets, Taco Bell recently tested a new breakfast menu (see http://www.foodfacts.info/blog/2007/04/taco-bell-test-markets-breakfast-menu.html for more info). The egg and cheese taco was amazing. I'm not sure if the test market is done yet; I came here hoping to find out. Kovu401 17:24, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

as far as i know taco bell breakfast hasn't been released to the public yet and is scheduled to be released sometime later this year as of 2008

Bacon Cheeseburger Burrito and Taco

I added these two items; I "think" the taco was "Supreme" but I can't recall. Both items were probably my favorite Taco Bell items ever, so I didn't want them left out. Kovu401 17:24, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Big Bell Value Menu Section is Subjective, and Misleading

Several statements in this section are personal and subjective:

"Despite Taco Bell's relatively cheap per-item pricing, it never had a true value menu until the mid-2000s."

"Also of note is that half of the menu is not truly new"

"The Cheesy Bean and Rice Burrito recently replaced the Bean Burrito Especial"

For example what is a "true value menu"? It's in contrast to a menu that's intentionally not cost effective?

"Not truly new" somehow implies that some foodstuffs are entirely new. Perhaps. But most food and food preparation has a long history. "Not truly new" implies a non-existent standard of "newness" that's completely philosophical and subjective.

The idea, here, that something "replaces" something else is misleading and pointless. A washing machine actually replaces the function of a manual washboard. An apple does not "replace" an orange, which is what this section seems to be saying.

The section should be rewritten, or preferably, deleted. 71.198.183.159 02:27, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Actually, the statement that Taco Bell did not have a "real" value menu means they did not have a specific portion of their menu set aside as something designated a "Value Menu". Menu items do get replaced as older menu items, usually that are not selling well, get phased out and a new one is brought in to replace the old product, usually that tests better in consumer trials. The phrase that states that half the items placed on the value menu "were not new" means that instead of creating items specifically for the value menu, they transfered products from their existing menu to the value section of their menu.
Words like new and replaces are not subjective.
Examples include when Burger King replaced their BK Broiler sandwich with the Tender Grill sandwich, and when McDonald's replaced their Chicken McNuggets with reformulated ones. Ford replaced their 500 sedan with the Taurus sedan.
None of those statements are subjective.

Free Taco offer?

Taco Bell is running a promotion giving out a free taco to anybody wanting one if a base is stolen during the 2007 MLB world series. Should this information be added to the article? http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/fan_forum/tacobell/ STLocutus 16:02, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

No, it was a one day thing during Game 1 of the World series. No one stole a base that night. - Jeremy (Jerem43 16:19, 25 October 2007 (UTC)) The Boston Red Sox won, 12-1

Taco Bell (according to a Fox sportscaster) is offering a free taco if a base is stolen during ANY game throughout the world series. Wwelles14 00:11, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
From the official page (linked above):
"During any game of the 2007 World Series (the "Games"), currently scheduled for Wednesday,
October 24, 2007, Thursday, October 25, 2007, Saturday, October 27, Sunday, October 28, 2007,
Monday, October 29, 2007 (if necessary), Wednesday, October 31, 2007 (if necessary), Thursday,
November 1, 2007, (if necessary)"
There is also a note that if no bases are stolen in these games, the promotion will be reviewed and may be applied to future games. STLocutus 14:17, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
I was wrong. Still it is only a small promotion. Although, it could be used as part of an advertising cross-promotion section. Hint
