Fair use rationale for Image:THSR LOGO.svg

[edit]

Image:THSR LOGO.svg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Article name

[edit]

The article was recently moved from "Taipei Station" to "Taipei railway station". I was wondering if others had opinions on the move. I'm more inclined to the original "Taipei Station" since calling it a railway station (i.e. its TRA name) would seem to neglect that the station also has two metro lines. It would be similar to just calling it "Taipei Main Station" and forgetting that TRA/THSR also operate at the station. If the current naming ("Taipei railway station") is the most appropriate, then I would suggest capitalization to "Taipei Railway Station" instead. Thoughts? -Multivariable (talk) 20:48, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

China Post gives the name as "Taipei Railway Station" (with capital letters), so I'd go with that. This is also the form used by the Taiwan Railways Administration. If you look at the Wikinames of railway stations around the world, it is quite unusual to give the descriptor simply as "station". Readers familiar with the nomenclature might think it was a bus station or something else. Another possibility is "Taipei train station" (not capitalized since it would be an unofficial name). I was just curious, since it's only called "Taipei Railway Station" when TRA is involved. It's just called "Taipei Station" with THSR [1] and "Taipei Main Station" for the MRT. I do agree that "Taipei Railway Station" is a more appropriate name for the station than simply "Taipei Station"; I was just wondering how to justify going with the TRA name rather than the generic name ("Taipei Station"). Then again, this China Post article just calls it "Taipei Station".
Curiously though, Tokyo and Seoul don't add "Railway" to their names, even though those are widely known as rail-centric stations. On the other hand, Beijing and Shanghai do add it. Go figure, I guess. Thanks! -Multivariable (talk) 18:14, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Since there seems to be no controversy, I have submitted a request to get the name changed to "Taipei Railway Station." Kauffner (talk) 03:58, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Airport MRT station is a good 200 meters from the other systems. Having a separate article would make that clear to readers. More importantly, the station is nearly equally far from Beimen station, so having a separate article would emphasize that Beimen is equally viable as a transfer station. Szqecs (talk) 14:33, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Good points. Additionally, on the official Taipei Metro map [2] the station appears to be separate as well with dotted lines (though it can be argued that it was drawn this way to convey its closeness to Beimen rather than its distance from Taipei Main). On Chinese Wikipedia [3], the station page is indeed a separate article. An argument against this move would be that the station (A1) is indeed called "Taipei Main Station" (vs. anything else) or 臺北車站, indicating it's meant to be associated with the Metro/TRA/HSR station.
