[edit]I try to add contents in the tourism section. There are many Family Compounds near Taiyuan, such as Qiao's Family Compound. I think it is necessary to introduce them. Gin sherry (talk) 20:01, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
I've tagged this for cleanup. Taiyuan is a pretty large city, and the information here does no justice to it. The points are fairly important but need to be expanded upon. Benji 00:19, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
Yangqu
[edit]During the Republic of China (1912-1949), the city's name was changed to "Yangqu", and it was not renamed back to "Taiyuan" until it was captured in 1949 by Communist forces. One chinese have told me: The sentence in wiki page of Taiyuan city is wrong. Yangqu just a county in the north side of Taiyuan city. Because in 1946 - 1949, the highest military organization in Shanxi (province) is named "太原綏靖公署", the meaning of first two Chinese characters is Taiyuan, and official newspaper offices also use "Taiyuan" in news. Resources
[edit]Taiyuan is rich in mineral resources, most notedly coal deposits. When the Japanese invaded Taiyuan, they enslaved the men and women and made them mine for coal and other mineral resources in horrible conditions.

Food
[edit]Contrary to what the article says, lamb soup (羊肉汤) is not at all the same as yangrou za (羊肉杂). Lamb soup is what a westerner might expect: lamb or mutton in broth with noodles. Yangrou za is mixed sheep offal stir fried together, and is very popular in Taiyuan. Colin McLarty (talk) 06:02, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
The caption of one picture says "Tounao is one of the most popular choices of breakfast in Taiyuan." But the citation given for tounao soup does not support this. It just says at the end that some people today enjoy this soup. I have tried to get tounao in Taiyuan and the people I asked, who were all Chinese residents of Taiyuan, had all heard of it but none had eaten any or knew where it could be found. Wutai Mount is not located in Taiyuan. It takes about 3 hours + to drive from Taiyuan to the temple. |

Map errors
[edit]I don't know where to report errors in English-langugage Wikipedia. They all concern the Chinese city of Taiyuan, so I report them here.
The multicolored map showing districts and counties of Taiyuan is correct as far as I can see. It links to articles about city districts, i.a., Yingze District and Xiaodian District. Those two articles have got the maps showing "Location in Taiyuan" mixed. That should be corrected.
The article Taiyuan Metro has a Network Map which shows only Line 1, which is under construction. Line 2, which has been in operation since December 26, 2020, should also be shown. Roufu (talk) 18:48, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
