I excised this because it's trivia. An aramaic/hebrew phrase meaning get up girl??? 76.66.202.139 (talk) 04:41, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Talitha in the Bible

Also Talitha is a biblical reference. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus spoke the words "Talitha cumi" or in other translations "Talitha Kuom" [Aramaic =maiden, arise][Hebrew = little girl, get up]. He said this to the daughter of the synangogue's ruler. the gospel says that the man and his family believed the girl to be dead, but Jesus said, "She is merely sleeping." The people were in disbelief, but Jesus said the words, and the young girl was raised from the dead. The words are in all European versions of the Gospel, Mark 5:41. The story can also be seen in Matthew 9:18-26 and Luke 8:40-56.
