I realized this when I first searched for Tallgrass Prairie, the photo on this page is not a photo of tallgrass, it's a photo of Phragmites australis, also called common reed. Anyhow, it's an invasive species, which prefers wetlands. My Wiki skills are not that good, so I don't know how to change this picture. If anyone else does or can, please do.

First we need to locate an image that is in the public domain. Any ideas? If you can locate an image, I can upload it to Wikipedia. Sunray 16:16, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Followup on Tall-Grass Photo Issue:

I apologize if the photo issue has been corrected (see above), since it seems due to my slow phone line I cannot download the full photo, and I could not even get access to the thread of that topic, but I would say four things. One--with the photo as it appears I cannot tell that it is Phragmites or not. Two--in either case, the photo seems to be a poor one which does not illustrate the size, height, or extent of Tall-Grass Prairie. It looks like a very small disjunct planting of some tall-grass. Three--if fixed with a non-Phragmites photo, no notice of the change seems to appear anywhere that I can find. Four--if this photo is incorrect, it really should be removed until an accurate is available, with all due respect to the above statement about first finding a proper one. Having no photo available is better than a misleading inaccurate one, and would be temporary. Bluestem (talk) 19:56, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just happened to look at the photo of bison grazing, and I must say this photo is also rather poor. First, it looks to be mid-grass prairie at best. A good photo of bison grazing in Tall-Grass would have bison barely visible, since the stalks would be taller than the bison. I will find out if bison typically graze in Tall-Grass Prairie grasses or if this photo should be removed as well. With the millions of people who now live where the Tall-Grass Prairie once stood, it seems we should do better than this. Bluestem (talk) 20:06, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tallgrass Prairie Animals

[edit]

The article Tallgrass Prairie Animals redirects to this article; however, there's barely a mention of bison, let alone other animals. There needs to be a section regarding this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.15.209.155 (talk) 01:58, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Age of the tallgrass prairie

[edit]

at the rate of disappearance age seems important enough to me to warrant a new section, which I will insert.--Wuerzele (talk) 20:49, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
