Untitled[edit]

The comment 'The city is located midway between Brisbane and Sydney the two largest cities on the Australian east coast' - aside from missing punctuation - isn't correct. They were put back again, but ive removed churches without a wikipedia article. Perhaps a small segment could be written about the Combined Churches in partnership with Fusion Australia's festival in bicentennial park called "LifeFest" each year, which attracts thousands of people. --Thirdayparadise 06:10, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of mention of Siding Springs[edit]

The part on the lighting of Tamworth being turned off for the Siding Springs Observatory is incorrect and should be removed. I would suspect that the town of Coonabarabran would be a larger part of the light pollution problem as it is the closer town of the two, Tamworth being over 185km north of the Siding Springs Observatory at Coonabarabran.

Lights of Tamworth[edit]

I don't think Tamworth did have the first electric street lighting in the Southern Hemisphere, as Kimberley in the Cape Province (now South Africa) had such lighting in 1882. This article states Tamworth had electric street lighting in 1888. Maybe the first in what is now Australia?

I find it a shame that Australians are always claiming to be the first and largest of something in the southern hemisphere, when in fact they have not checked the sources in either Africa nor South America. What is the problem of claiming to be the first in Australia only, which is a very simple fact to check?

The assertion about Tamworth being the first town in the Southern Hemisphere with electric street lighting is certainly incorrect - I believe this distinction belongs to Kimberley in South Africa. I have changed the wording to Australia 58.168.18.245 (talk) 01:08, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Suburbs of Tamworth[edit]

Would be great if we could get some population estimates of the suburbs of Tamworth. I know its a small city, but Sydney suburbs such as the suburb of Brookvale have a population estimate, and this suburb is only 2,493 big. Surely there is suburbs of Tamworth with bigger populations than this such as East Tamworth or South Tamworth. Area[edit]

Currently states the area is 486 sq km. That is too large to be the area of the Tamworth city proper, and too small to be the area covered by the Tamworth Regional Council LGA ( which is apparently about 9700 sq km ). So what is the 486 sq km supposed to be then ?? Is it the area of the old Tamworth LGA ? Needs to be clarified Eregli bob (talk) 05:58, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
