Request received to merge articles: Tanda thermal power plant into NTPC Limited; dated: {September 2024}. Proposer's Rationale: Owned by NTPC and there is little to no reason to have separate article, All plants are owned by one company. Discuss here. The reasoning that ownership alone negates the need for a separate article is flawed. NTPC owns over 40 power plants, each with its own unique history, specifications, and role in the power grid, which merits individual coverage. By this logic, assets like ships and submarines wouldn't require separate articles simply because they belong to a Navy, which clearly is not the case. Just as vessels have distinct operational details and historical relevance, power plants, including Tanda Thermal Power Station, deserve their own space on Wikipedia to provide comprehensive information to readers. ~~Oppose~~ based on provided rationale. We have many subtopics of larger topics (such as a parent company owning plants) where the subtopic deserves its own article. In this case, as noted above, the individual plants likely have their own info and merging them would not make sense. Further, in general topics on Wikipedia don't confer notability to their subtopics, and as such if a subtopic is independently notable, it should have its own article. On top of that, the plant wasn't even originally owned by NTPC, and was transferred by a regulator in 2000 - it would be disingenuous to ignore the plant's history (our coverage of which is already unsatisfactory) and claim that it's just part of NTPC. Edit: While the original rationale is a little flawed, I neglected to look at notability as a concern. If somebody happens to be able to expand this I suppose they can always do so later. Support merge since the individual power plants are numerous and don't appear to meet WP:NOTABILITY. In particular, it's hard to find much on the Tanda thermal power plant, including even whether it is properly named Tanda Thermal Power Plant. Dicklyon (talk) 00:10, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
