Emanuel Metzger[edit]

It seems to me that a link to the papers(http://www.eisenhower.archives.gov/Research/Finding_Aids/PDFs/Metzger_Emanual_Papers.pdf) of an early member of the Tank Corps (Emanuel Metzger) would be particularly useful to anyone intrested in researching the history of the Corps. Dwight D. Eisenhower was a founding member of the Tank Corps and commander at Camp Colt in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Camp Colt was where Eisenhower was to train the Tank Corps and Metzer was a member of that command. The contents of the finding aid reveal correspondence between the two. In his biography, At Ease: Stories I Tell to Friends, Eisenhower writes, "The Tank Corps was new. There were no precidents except in basic training and I was the only regular officer in command. Now I really began to learn about responsibility. (Dwight D. Eisenhower. At Ease: Stories I Tell to Friends. 2007. Eastern National. Eisenhower's involvement is significant (and should probably be mentioned in the article), but should we make note of every soldier who was in the corps? Clarityfiend (talk) 19:54, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The mention is justified in this instance because 1.) the collection to which I originally linked includes actual correspondence between Eisenhower and Metzger, 2.) the extant personal papers of early Tank Corps members are probably so neglegable that any primary source information is valuable and 3.) the deleted mention was not in the body of the article but in the "additional links" section.CD972 (talk) 20:35, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're confusing WP:USEFUL with WP:Notability. Also, the document that was linked is not particularly informative anyway. Clarityfiend (talk) 19:08, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Tank Corps was established before Xmas 1917. Patton was the first officer appointed. And it was abolished as a separate arm in 1920. Hengistmate (talk) 17:32, 30 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
