Gate Alliance Treaty

[edit]

"After the discovery of the Ancient Outpost in Antarctica, the signatory members of the Antarctic Treaty also had to be included because of international law..." Antarctic_Treaty#Members So shouldn't there be more countries coloured on map? At the very least, I've seen New Zealand flags on shoulder patches. - Quolnok (talk) 07:15, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NID is not National Intelligence Department

[edit]

I know nothing about Wikicode and I can't actually source this, so I'm only posting it here, but the NID is not the National Intelligence Department. The RPG rulebook is not canon (those things always add info to a universe to make a more detailed gameplay), and it has been stated in at least one DVD commentary (I don't remember which one, but I think Ronny Cox was one of the commenters) that NID doesn't actually stand for anything, at least not according to actual canon. --Nathaniel —Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.42.170.126 (talk) 07:15, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to rectify the situation as best as I could. – sgeureka t•c 10:08, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've heard it as "National Intelligence Division", but that was from a British Stargate site that's been down for over two years, so I don't know. I doubt it's "Department" however, since they're clearly under the Department of Defense and not their own thing. 213.181.226.21 (talk) 15:16, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

UN Flag

[edit]

Why is there a UN flag in the section about the IOA? Does anyone have a good reason, or is it just because its "international" so go ahead and put a UN flag up? 65.96.38.93 (talk) 08:09, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the Atlantis expedition was set up under some kind of UN oversight. But most of the countries in the world still don't know about the Stargate, so it'd have to be a very special committee. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 147.9.201.154 (talk) 21:48, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I had already tagged Stargate Command and Alpha Site (Stargate) for lacking real-world information (see WP:NOT#PLOT, WP:WAF and the proposed WP:FICT) or notability (see WP:NOTABILITY) and thought of either merging them into a new Locations in Stargate article or here (Tau'ri organizations in Stargate). However, User:Yzx made the suggestion to create the Stargate Program (currently a redirect to Stargate Command), which I think is a great idea. It's basically no different than my idea of merging the other two articles here, but it has got a better name. The resulting article size would at most be 18+16+9=41 kB (acceptable), although a merger would also likely call for a trim for redundancy. And we'd have two or three less articles to worry about for an AfD. I won't perform a merger any sooner than in 2 weeks, and encourage input. (Please read the policies and guidelines though if you haven't already.) – sgeureka tc 08:56, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You'd have two or less articles, but then you'd have to make "Stargate Program" even longer and bulkier. The SGC is central enough to Stargate to deserve its own article, while the NID, IOA and the Trust are doing fine here. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. 213.181.226.21 (talk) 15:16, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is, per WP:NOTABILITY these articles are broken, and the only long-term solution to avoid deletion is expansion with reliable sources from independent parties (good luck on finding those, although they may exist in some dark corners) or a trim&merger. So I ask for input (1) who may have usable sources to satisfy NOTABILITY or (2) has a better solution like e.g. a different merge target. – sgeureka tc 21:14, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

i have to agree here that the Stargate Command article would become way too large. besides i just have to agree that making it even bigger would be a very odd thing. it would be simpeler to make a new article (if the article does not already exsist) called "Tau'ri off world organizations in Satargate sg-1". you would have to merge the alpha site article with this article, but i belive it would have a better resault.Hawkey131 (talk) 20:18, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll probably prepare a draft of this proposed merger in userspace. By trimming excessive plot detail and removing redundance, I doubt the article will be larger than 25kB, so size shouldn't be a problem (even the 41kB is not really a problem yet). I/we won't know for sure until I've tried though. – sgeureka tc 20:29, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have trimmed Alpha Site (Stargate) to about 5kB and have merged it into Stargate Command now - that article would never have been able to establish notability. The other trims will follow as time allows, and we'll see if we hit a size limit to not do the final merger. – sgeureka tc 22:50, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have performed the initial merge and have started trimming. Even hough the organizations list hasn't really been touched yet trim-wise, the article is already down to 28kB, far away from the 40-60 "should-be-split-soon" article size limit. I thus consider the merger successful. – sgeureka tc 10:35, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
