Taxadiene synthase, the largest of terpene cyclases, is the enzyme catalyzes the rate-limiting step of toxoids biosynthesis. It can help to converts the geranylgeranyl diphosphate (GGPP) to taxa-4,11-diene, the starting compound of more than 500 kinds of taxanes in yew tree. Taxanes can help the plant to fight against the predation of animals, mechanical damage, and many other kinds scenarios that not good for its growth or development.
