Taxicabs around the world[edit]

I have restored this as 'main' from 'see also' because:

  • This article amplifies a section of Taxicabs around the world;
  • I am building a hierarchy of Taxicab-Taxicabs around the world-specific countries and 'main' is needed for consistency and to help the reader find their way up the hierarchy. TerriersFan 19:37, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Transfer of taxi licenses?[edit]

Would someone please add a section about how HK taxi licenses are transferred? Are there medallion brokers as in countries with large taxi fleets, or is there some other method? SONORAMA (talk) 02:53, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Taxi fare increase[edit]

FYI: http://www.info.gov.hk/gia/general/200802/20/P200802200228.htm and http://www.td.gov.hk/transport_in_hong_kong/public_transport/taxi/taxi_fare_of_hong_kong/index.htm
Actually, the article has no info about exact taxi fares. Not sure if that's intentional. aditsu (talk) 18:38, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Price information would be very encyclopaedic. WP:NOT#DIRECTORY says "prices of a product should not be quoted in an article unless the price can be sourced and there is a justified reason for its mention. Examples of justified reasons include notable sales of rare collectors items, prices relating to discussion of a price war, and historical discussion of economic inflation." Employment[edit]

Is it correct that the drivers hire the taxi for a fee and are not paid a standard wage, but there income depends on their takings? Can we put something into the article about this? Enlil Ninlil (talk) 05:07, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Kowloon Waterfront, Hong Kong, 2013-08-09, DD 05.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on August 15, 2015. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2015-08-15. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. Thanks! — Chris Woodrich (talk) 00:31, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Taxicabs of Hong Kong
A row of taxis in front of the International Commerce Centre in Kowloon, Hong Kong. The 18,138 licensed taxicabs of Hong Kong are predominantly independently owned and operated, though some are owned by taxi companies. The majority of taxis are Toyota Comforts.

The taxis' tariffs and service areas are indicated by the colour of their livery. Red taxis, seen here, have the highest fares but serve the greatest area. Green taxis serve the New Territories and are less expensive. Blue taxis are the least expensive, but are limited to southern Lantau Island.Photograph: Diego Delso
