The real given name of Teila Tuli

[edit]

Teila Tuli's given name appears to actually be Taylor Wily, not Wiley as written in the wiki article.

His acting credit with Hawaii 5-0 lists him as Wily as does IMDB and he himself on Facebook.

This is a major change affecting searches on the subject. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Panwilson (talkcontribs) 14:55, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: page moved. The target had a rather convoluted history but nothing that needed preserving unless as an example of what not to do. Andrewa (talk) 22:47, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Teila TuliTaylor Wily – Per WP:COMMONNAME. In addition to many more Google hits for Taylor Wily, he is credited as Taylor Wily on the show he is best known for, Hawaii Five-O, and he uses the name Taylor Wily on his Facebook and Twitter accounts. Birth name

[edit]

NYTimes says his full name was Taylor Tuli Wily, and they quote an interview which sounds like he created the name "Teila Tuli" for his UFC fighting career. I'm not that familiar with this person, but it sounds like Teila Tuli was a stage name, not his birth name. Can anyone confirm? Harizotoh9 (talk) 05:26, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of sources are saying "born Teila Tuli" but they probably just took that from Wikipedia. The interview should be confirmation enough, it's a primary source but if it's just telling us where his name came from I think it's an acceptable source. Pawnkingthree (talk) 14:07, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it's being widely reported by sources that should know better, but they're likely just taking it from Wikipedia, or repeating what other sources said, who in turn likely got it from here. Unfortunately, online information even in reliable sources can be an incestuous snake and this problem will only get worse. Thankfully, the NYTimes dugg up that Sherdog interview and included it in the obituary, seemingly specifically to clarify this confusion. Harizotoh9 (talk) 20:42, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
