Re: Wellington Phoenix

[edit]

The Team Wellington alliance partner Wellington Phoenix were an expansion franchise in 2007, not a relocation of the New Zealand Knights. Team Wellington has no connection with the Knights. Historical notes involving the arrival of the Phoenix and their impact on Team Wellington should reflect this. Gialloneri (talk) 05:09, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi: you seem to interpret the term "expansion franchise" differently from the way I do. This term is (usually) used to indicate new teams added to a league to make the league larger, the most common examples being the expansion of the NFL, with e.g. Jacksonville and Texas (see Expansion team). This is not the case with the Phoenix. The Phoenix was not part of any planned expansion of the league, they arose just because the Knights collapsed off the field as well as on it. There never was a seven team A-league, except perhaps technically for the few days while the Australian FA considered transferring the franchise to Football NZ. Anyhow the main point about the Phoenix is that they are not the Knights.Cheers Neil Leslie (talk) 19:21, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the input Neil. As far as I'm concerned, the A-League existed as a seven team league after the Knight's dissolution on account of the league only having seven franchises, which is along the lines of the few days you refer to, however it's closer to a few months. As you've pointed out, the main this is not the Knights: unfortunately whereas the only three apparent options is league movements are expansion, contraction and relocation, people often mistakenly consider the Phoenix to be a relocated franchise rather than a completely new entity, something many of us Phoenix supporters struggle to avoid! Haha

While I feel the quoted article Expansion team backs up my POV, in the interests of NPOV and since I can't back up the official status of the team (I can't recall any articles where the FFA have explicitly used the terms expansion or relocation) I've edited the text to simply state the A-League placed a team in Wellington with no reference to the A-League's status beforehand. Fair use rationale for Image:TW logo.png

[edit]

Image:TW logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
