Exact "for those with B+W" quote

[edit]

This article says:

  • "for those viewers watching in black and white, the pink ball is just behind the green"

While the Pot Black article has two completely different colours:

  • "going for the yellow ball by the sidepocket - and for those in black and white, it's next to the blue."

Which is correct? Peter Ballard (talk) 03:36, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, here's a ref from a book on Google books:[1]

  • "Griffiths is snookered on the brown, which, for those of you watching in black and white, is the ball directly behind the pink".

While the BBC website is different:[2]

  • "Steve is going for the pink ball - and for those of you who are watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green."

The Pot Black quote is almost the correct one, as heard on It'll Be Alright On The Night Anniversary Special in 1999 and the 50 Years of ITV special:

  • "The yellow is on the side cushion, and for those of you watching in black and white, it's just behind the blue".

It's possible that he made this mistake multiple times though, and the Alright on the Night clip is a surviving example of it. 90.194.194.100 (talk) 17:44, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The BBC quote strikes me as dubious, since there were no professional snooker players called "Steve" before Steve Davis turned pro in 1978. The quote I remember hearing involved the side cushion (or maybe pocket), which makes it a much more helpful (if odd-sounding) comment - but as stated above, he may have said similar things more than once. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.233.46.255 (talk) 22:20, 13 May 2011 (UTC) "Steve is going for the pink ball - and for those of you who are watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green." makes perfect sense if the green is still on its spot! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.237.213.203 (talk) 15:44, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
