Wildcard

[edit]

Mariana Duque Marino from colombia will receive a wc because she is the best latinoamerican in the ranking. No latinoamerican tennis player enters by direct qualification ( 56 olympic ranking), so she will be there as a representative quota. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.116.42.93 (talk) 15:30, 17 June 2012 (UTC) Also i delet information about mens doubles teams. Source is not reliable. Wait until ITF makes an official annoucement. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.116.42.93 (talk) 15:50, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How did you determine that the sources for the doubles teams were not reliable. For example, Tennis Canada has officially announced that Daniel Nestor and Vasek Pospisil are playing together. So clearly the source from TSN used was reliable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brownj42 (talkcontribs) 17:38, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I do not refer to the top ten doubles team, i refer to the 24 doubles teams that you include in this page, the source is not reliable. You will have to wait until the ITF makes an official annoucement. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.69.218.186 (talk) 01:34, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You seemed to make no distinction between "top ten doubles teams" and the 24 doubles teams included on this page. If the official tennis organization of the country has issued a press release stating that the two players are playing together and both are eligible, then the section should still be there. A better "fix" of this section would have been to move the "confirmed teams" to the "announced teams" if they are not top 10 rank instead of simply removing all the information that has been contributed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brownj42 (talkcontribs) 18:41, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You are an idiot or what? I am from Colombia and the Colombian Olympic Commite says it will nominate Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah for the doubles team, not Santiago Giraldo¡¡¡. You fucking idiot¡¡¡ So i suggest to you that wait until IFT makes the official annoucement, you include 24 teams from a ridiculous and doubtful webpage, why the hell this page knows the conformation of all 24 teams?, the only one that knows of the nominated teams is the ITF, no that stupid webpage that you include as a souce. Give me a break¡¡¡

You will note that only 11 of the 23 teams previously listed had a reference to the website (which I agree is not reputable). The rest were sourced to news articles and announcements from more reputable sources. For example, the one that I added from tsn.ca about Pospisil and Nestor partnering. Blanking the entire section did not make any sense. Do you have a good reason as to why the other 12 teams should not be added back as "announced teams". Also, the profanity filled outburst was uncalled for... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brownj42 (talkcontribs) 17:36, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Really uncalled for... Colombian guy, your information was wrong as well. ITF announced today all the qualified athletes. Santiago Giraldo was nominated for the doubles. Robert Farah only for the singles. Should we assume your "polite" words apply to yourself now? 189.19.115.171 (talk) 17:42, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Qualification points breakdown

[edit]

Does this section need to be there? Right now, it only displays information on Lu Yen-hsun, and to incorporate information to that degree on every player that qualifies for the Olympics would be a bit too much. Prayerfortheworld (talk) 16:56, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We did the same calculation pages every year with the Finals like 2011 ATP World Tour Finals, 2010 ATP World Tour Finals and so on (just check the history pages). The only difference here is that the deadline is June 11 and not 4 Novembre and that they qualify up to 56 and not the only to best ten. Lajbi Holla @ meCP 23:13, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

some oddities?

[edit]

So, Alexandr Dolgopolov has qualified from #18, but players from #12 to #17 are not? Or is the reason this: Players coloured blue have not met the minimal Fed/Davis Cup representation level as his entry is marked blue? I don't get it.
And, why there are no contenders on the women's side? For Ágnes Szávay, the source says her protected ranking allows her to access, but it is also stated "if her health permits". So, I think it's far from sure. 82.141.94.239 (talk) 22:22, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Injuries/illness can happen any time that doesn't change the fact that she is eligible for the event at the moment. Lajbi Holla @ meCP 13:22, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Confusion about doubles Entry

[edit]

I think there is some confusion about entry for doubles players. You don't need to be a top 10 doubles player to be at the olympics. The top 10 automatically get in and can choose ANYONE who has a single ranking point as a partner. After the top 10 are in, the other automatic entry spots (up to 24) will be filled by lowest sum of ranking (either singles or doubles). So if Joe is ranked 12 in singles and Bob is ranked 20 in doubles, their combined ranking would be 20+12=32. This means that Juergen Melzer (17 in doubles) and Alexander Peya (20 in doubles) 17+20=37 have a good shot at direct qualification based on their doubles ranking even though they are not in the top 10 in doubles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brownj42 (talkcontribs) 22:44, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's why there is a coloumn dedicated to explain which option has the biggest chance for a certain pair to qualify. As several sources in the references also explain these rules you mentioned I felt no intention to further get into details with that, but for every team it is highlighted why they are eligible (top ten/1 pt. for the first option you said, combined rank for the second and singl. qual. as singles entrants are eligible for any doubles event - and exclusively eligible for the mixed). Venezuela?

[edit]

Why Venezuela is on the table of the information to be determined?. This country does not have any chance to get a spot, not even by ITF RANKING. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.255.253.191 (talk) 21:13, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

About Timea

[edit]

People, the ITF made a mistake (more likely an epic fail, =P). Below is the e-mail I sent to ITF:

Hi. I'd like to communicate a mistake on the recently announced list of qualified athletes to the Olympic Games.

ITF published: "Timea Bacsinszky (SUI) is included in the direct acceptance list having qualified under the ITF’s entry criteria, approved by the International Olympic Committee. However, her entry has not yet been confirmed by the Swiss Olympic Committee. The ITF believes that all qualified players should be allowed to compete in the Olympic Games, and will continue to do everything in its power to convince the Swiss Olympic Committee to respect the ITF’s qualification criteria and enter Bacsinszky into the 2012 Olympic Tennis Event."

In fact, the one that qualified by being ranked 68th in the WTA ranking of June 11th and taking the 56th and last direct acceptance place was Timea Babos from Hungary. Timea Bacsinszky was ranked 427th and four other Swiss women was ranked above her, Romina Oprandi (69), Stefanie Voegele (119), Amra Sadikovic (183) and Conny Perrin (282). So it's just natural that the Swiss Olympic Committee have not confirmed Timea Bacsinszky since her nomination by ITF makes no sence. Romina Oprandi ranked just one place short to the direct acceptance zone. If she had received a wildcard (and she deserved one), I'm pretty sure the Swiss Olympic Committee would have confirmed her. On the other side, Timea Babos, the Hungarian woman that actuatly gained a direct place, was not nominated and ITF should correct that.

Since it's an obvious mistake (probably because of the same first names, but still epic fail, =P), I corrected it here on the article. Here the announcement by ITF and here a link to a website with WTA ranking of 11 June. I could't find it on WTA website, they only show the latest weekly ranking (On ATP website they show the rankings for previous weeks, not only the latest). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.19.114.69 (talk) 05:50, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I got a response. I should note that I've already sent e-mails to international federations such as FIBA and FINA and never got a response. ITF not only replied but replied quite fast. That shows how professional and how they care for the fans. Congrats ITF! As for Timea, I was the one epic failing. Timea Bacsinszky has a protected/special ranking and thus qualified above and coincidently took the place of another Timea! The coincidence in names and the fact that, if not because of the special ranking, Timea Babos would have gained a direct place led me to think ITF had made a confusion, but I was the one making confusion indeed. But I couldn't find anywhere the protected rank of Timea Bacsinszky to place her correctly in the the table qualified athletes. So, as temporary solution, I'll do what was done before and just place Timea Bacsinszky as the last direct qualified athlete until someone find a reference with her protected rank to place her correctly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.19.114.69 (talk) 15:44, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tamira Paszek

[edit]

http://2012.itftennis.com/olympics/news/articles/itf-confirms-paszek%27s-olympic-eligibility.aspx

Timea Bacsinzsky withdraws and Tamira Paszek will get the chance to play (probably also in Mixed with Jürgen Melzer). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.117.98.196 (talk) 19:53, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Marion Bartoli

[edit]

Marion Bartoli was to be taking part earlier, but now she is marked not to have enough Fed Cup representations. She had no problems a week ago and now she's not eligible? That can't be possible, only possibility is that her ineligibility hasn't been noticed before, which actually sounds odd. 85.217.20.68 (talk) 11:23, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind, that was my bad. I had considered everyone on the list as taking part. Did not make difference if there was pink, blue or grey shade in their entry. Sorry. 85.217.20.68 (talk) 11:30, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

mixed doubles

[edit]

What are the rules concerning the mixed doubles? Same as men's and women's doubles? Or is there any rules about it? Not in the article at least. Or, actually there is: Doubles players within the top 10 rankings on 11 June are eligible to bring any player provided that player has any doubles or singles ranking, and the number of players of the same country do not surpass the total of six. Well, where are the mixed doubles rankings? 85.217.37.148 (talk) 16:59, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't the "possible players" total speculation? If it's speculation, it should be removed. Kingnavland (talk) 02:19, 22 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mixed doubles teams will be formed from players that have already qualified in either singles or doubles. A number of the qualified players (or their national assocaiation) have stated an interest in playing mixed with particular partners, hence a number of the teams in the table of possible players have citations. So, while there is indeed an element of speculation, it is not "total speculation". Whether to remove or not will obviously be rendered moot fairly soon.
BTW, there are no mixed doubles rankings. Entry into mixed doubles draws in non-Olympic competition are determined by regular doubles ranking. As the ITF is also recognizing singles rankings for the men's and women's doubles draws, I'd assume they will do the same thing for the mixed doubles draw. Whitejay251 18:33, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
True. I thought it was a bit bizarre that the Wimbledon mixed doubles champions weren't included in the table, which is what raised my curiosity. By now there's no real need to remove, as the table can just be converted when the draw comes out. Kingnavland (talk) 02:17, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
